To wirelessly connect a Windows 10 laptop to a TV, both devices need to support Miracast. Turn on the TV, press Windows key + K, select the TV from the available devices, and follow any on-screen prompts. If the TV does not support Miracast, a compatible Miracast HDMI adapter is an option.
Check that the laptop and TV support Miracast
Microsoft says a Windows PC can connect wirelessly to a TV or other external display that supports Miracast. The laptop must also support Miracast for this direct connection to work. Check the TV’s manual or its screen-mirroring or wireless-display settings for Miracast support. Microsoft’s screen-mirroring guidance explains the Windows connection flow.
To check the laptop in Windows 10, type Connect in the Start menu search and open the Connect app. It indicates whether the PC supports Miracast. Also make sure Wi-Fi is turned on.
Connect the Windows 10 laptop to the TV
- Turn on the TV and enable its Miracast, screen-mirroring, or wireless-display mode if the TV requires it. The exact setting name and location vary by TV.
- On the laptop, press Windows key + K to open the available wireless displays.
- Select the TV and follow any instructions shown on the laptop or TV.
You can also open Start > Settings > System > Display > Connect to a wireless display, then select the TV. Once connected, use Windows display settings to manage the external display. Microsoft’s multiple-monitor instructions describe this settings route.

If the TV does not appear or the connection fails
Work through these checks in order. They cover the compatibility and connection issues Microsoft identifies for wireless displays.
- Confirm that both the laptop and TV support Miracast.
- Make sure Wi-Fi is on and Miracast or screen mirroring is enabled on the TV.
- Update the laptop’s drivers and the TV or adapter firmware. For firmware updates, check the manufacturer’s support information.
- Restart the laptop and TV or adapter, then try connecting again.
- If the TV was previously connected, remove the wireless display from Windows and reconnect it.

If the TV does not have Miracast
A compatible Miracast HDMI adapter can add wireless-display support to a TV. This is a fallback, not a requirement if the TV already supports Miracast. Check that the laptop supports Miracast and that the adapter’s specifications suit the TV before choosing one.
- Connect the adapter to an HDMI port on the TV and provide USB power as its instructions require.
- Switch the TV to the HDMI input used by the adapter.
- On the laptop, press Windows key + K, select the adapter, and follow any prompts.

Windows 10 support status
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says that after this date it no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10; existing PCs continue to work. This connection guidance applies to Windows 10, but the end of support is relevant when deciding how to keep a PC secure. See Microsoft’s current support information.
