To watch Apple TV+ shows on a smart TV, Roku, or another supported streaming device, open or install the Apple TV app, then sign in with the Apple Account that has an Apple TV subscription. You usually do not need Apple TV hardware if your current TV or streaming player supports the app. Apple now calls the subscription service “Apple TV”; this guide uses “Apple TV+” where it matches the familiar search term.

Before you start

  • Connect the TV or streaming device to the internet.
  • Check the device’s app store for the Apple TV app. It may already be installed.
  • Have the Apple Account used for the subscription ready. Subscription access does not include third-party branded services or titles separately rented or purchased in the Apple TV app. Apple explains what an Apple TV subscription includes.

App availability and features depend on the device, model, country or region, and software version. If the app is absent, check the manufacturer’s app store, update the device software, and confirm support for your exact model and region in Apple’s device setup guide.

Install and sign in on a smart TV

  1. Connect the TV to Wi-Fi or another internet connection.
  2. Open the TV’s Apps area or app store and search for Apple TV. If it is already installed, open it instead.
  3. Choose the sign-in option and use the Apple Account associated with the subscription.

The app’s location differs by manufacturer and model. Apple’s guide includes paths for Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, VIZIO, and Hisense/VIDAA TVs. For Sony models from 2018–2020, Apple calls out the need to update the TV software; newer Sony models use the Android TV or Google TV instructions.

Add Apple TV on Roku

  1. From the Roku home screen, open Search Channels.
  2. Search for “Apple TV.” Apple’s setup instructions use the same wording.
  3. Select the Apple TV channel and follow the prompts to add it.
  4. Open the Apple TV app and sign in with the Apple Account that has the subscription.

You can also add the channel from the Roku Channel Store. If the app does not appear, check Roku model and regional availability rather than assuming every Roku device supports it.

Install it on Fire TV, Android TV, or Google TV

  1. Open the device’s Search function or app store.
  2. Search for Apple TV, install the app if needed, and open it.
  3. Sign in with the Apple Account used for the subscription.

Some platforms do not support subscriptions or purchases inside the app. Apple says U.S. Fire TV users can subscribe through Fire TV and Prime Video, but other purchases may not be available there; availability varies by device and region. If an in-app purchase option is missing, subscribe or make the purchase on another supported device using the same Apple Account, then sign in on the TV to watch.

Sign in with a code or the TV remote

Depending on the TV or player, the app may let you scan a QR code with your phone or visit link.apple.com and enter the code shown on screen. You can also enter your account details with the TV remote. Follow the options presented by the app; they vary by device. Apple’s setup and sign-in guidance covers these methods. If setup or the internet connection fails, Apple recommends contacting the device manufacturer for help.

What your subscription lets you watch

An Apple TV subscription provides access to Apple TV subscription content, but it does not automatically unlock third-party branded subscriptions or movies and shows separately offered for rent or purchase in the app. Those may require separate subscriptions or payments. Availability of sports and other content can also differ by country or region.
