Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To wait for a browser process to print a line matching a pattern, use Process.waitForLineOutput(regex, timeout) from @puppeteer/browsers. It returns a promise for the matching line. If you only want to forward browser logs to your Node.js terminal, use Puppeteer’s dumpio: true launch option instead; that is a different task.
Wait for a matching browser-process line
The Process.waitForLineOutput() method is for waiting programmatically until browser-process output matches a regular expression. The documented signature accepts a RegExp and an optional timeout, and returns Promise<string>. See the method reference.
import {launch} from '@puppeteer/browsers';
const process = await launch({
// Supply the launch options required by your application and installed version.
});
try {
const matchingLine = await process.waitForLineOutput(/your-pattern/, 30_000);
console.log(matchingLine);
} finally {
// Clean up the launched browser process according to your application's lifecycle.
}
This is an API pattern, not a complete runnable launch configuration: the required launch() options depend on your setup. Consult the documentation for the exact version installed in your project. The official class reference currently identifies @puppeteer/browsers 25.12.0, while the method-specific page identifies 25.3.0. The method documentation reviewed here does not specify buffering or every timeout edge case, so do not assume behavior beyond the documented signature and return type. See the Process class reference.
Choose the right kind of output
“Browser output” can mean different things in Puppeteer. Choose the API based on whether you need to wait for a line, display executable logs, inspect recent logs, or receive messages from JavaScript running in the page.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| What you need | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Wait for output matching a pattern | Process.waitForLineOutput(regex, timeout?) |
Returns a promise for a matching string. |
| Forward browser executable logs to the Node.js terminal | dumpio: true in Puppeteer launch options |
Forwards browser stdout and stderr to Node.js stdout and stderr; the default is false. |
| Inspect recent browser-process logs after an issue | Process.getRecentLogs() |
Provides recent browser stderr and stdout output. |
Receive console.log() messages from page JavaScript |
page.on('console', ...) |
Handles the page’s console events; it is not the browser executable’s process output. |
| Access the underlying launched child process | browser.process() |
Returns ChildProcess | null; it is null for a browser attached with Puppeteer.connect(). |
For option details, see the LaunchOptions reference, the debugging guide, and the Browser.process() reference.
Forward logs with dumpio
Set dumpio: true in Puppeteer’s browser launch options when you want browser stdout and stderr to appear in the Node.js process streams, for example while investigating a failed launch or unexpected crash. The option defaults to false.

Do not confuse dumpio with pipe. dumpio forwards browser output to Node’s corresponding streams. pipe configures additional stdio streams for browser automation instead of using WebSocket.
Capture page console messages separately
Client-side code’s console.log() does not automatically become Node.js output. Subscribe to the page’s console event when you need those messages:

page.on('console', message => {
console.log('Page console:', message.text());
});
This captures console events from the page; it does not wait for a line from the browser executable.
Account for connected browsers
browser.process() is useful only when Puppeteer has a local child process to return. Its documented return type is ChildProcess | null, and it returns null when the browser was attached using Puppeteer.connect(). It is not the same API as @puppeteer/browsers’s Process class.

Troubleshoot output that does not appear
- You only need terminal logs: use
dumpio: true;waitForLineOutput()is for waiting on a matching line, not a general switch for printing all output. - You are looking for a page’s
console.log(): listen forpage.on('console', ...). Page console events and browser-process streams are separate channels. - You connected to a browser: expect
browser.process()to returnnullfor a browser attached withPuppeteer.connect(); it does not expose a local child process in that case. - A pattern wait does not resolve as expected: verify the pattern against the output you expect and check the exact method documentation or implementation for your installed package version. The reviewed method reference does not establish line buffering, matching details, stream ordering, or all timeout behavior.
- The launch example does not run as-is: provide the launch options required by your application and the version of
@puppeteer/browsersyou have installed. The method signature alone does not define those arguments.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is to get a website screenshot rather than inspect Puppeteer’s process streams, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return an image or PDF; see the API documentation.
