Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesVerify Grok’s claims against the sources they cite; don’t treat a confident answer—or a citation by itself—as proof. Check what each source actually says, when it was published, and whether it covers the same place, people, or issue. For answers that matter, corroborate key claims with an independent authoritative source. If you use the API and need to reproduce an answer, record the model identifier and response metadata; the consumer app’s disclosure of the model behind each answer is not established by the official sources cited here.
How to check a Grok answer
- Split it into individual claims. Pay particular attention to numbers, dates, causes, and statements about people or institutions. A paragraph can contain several claims, and one citation may support only some of them.
- Open every citation. Check that the source exists, is relevant, and actually supports the specific statement Grok attaches to it. A link is a lead to evidence, not a guarantee that the claim is correct. xAI describes citations as a way for users to inspect sources in its announcement about bringing Grok to more users: Bringing Grok to Everyone.
- Check date and scope. Confirm when the source was published or updated and whether its geographic, subject, and time scope match the claim. An older source may not establish what is true now; a report about one jurisdiction may not apply elsewhere.
- Look for primary evidence. When available, prefer the original document, data, announcement, or institution’s own statement over a summary. For consequential or disputed claims, seek independent authoritative corroboration rather than relying on a second page that repeats the same source.
- Handle disagreement explicitly. If credible sources conflict, note what each establishes and where the disagreement lies. Grok’s confidence does not settle the matter.
How to verify current information
A model’s built-in knowledge and live retrieval are different. xAI’s model guidance says Grok has no access to real-time events without search tools enabled and documents server-side Web Search and X Search. It also lists a May 2026 knowledge cutoff for Grok 4.7. That cutoff is specific to the model information on the page, not a promise that every answer contains newer information. See Grok Models & Pricing.
For a question about a breaking event, current policy, or changing figure, inspect the linked sources and establish whether they are current enough to answer it. Do not infer that Grok searched the web or X, or that an answer is up to date, merely because it uses present-tense language. The cited official documentation describes search tools for developers; it does not establish what retrieval occurred for a particular consumer-app answer.
Which model answered this?
xAI’s documentation distinguishes a model alias, which may move to the latest stable version, from a dated model ID intended to identify a specific release. The model page reviewed for this article identifies Grok 4.7 as its flagship model for code and general use and is marked last updated September 21, 2026. Since model names and availability can change, consult the current official model guidance when exact identity matters.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For API requests, record the request date, exact model identifier, and available response metadata. The REST API reference describes model-version and system-configuration fingerprint metadata. A dated model ID can help keep a workflow tied to a particular release; an alias may resolve differently as xAI updates its lineup. This improves reproducibility, but does not by itself verify that an answer’s claims are true.
The official sources cited here do not confirm whether the current Grok consumer app identifies the underlying model for each answer, or whether it lets users reliably select and lock a model across web and mobile. Do not assume the API’s identifiers or metadata are available in the app; check current in-product information or official help for the interface you use.

Where Grok is available—and a privacy distinction
xAI’s overview says Grok is available on grok.com and in iOS and Android apps. The X Help Center separately says interactions, inputs, and results when using Grok on X may be used to train and improve xAI’s generative models. That statement applies to the X surface described by the help page; consult the current privacy terms for your account and specific interface rather than applying it automatically to every way of using Grok.
