Run dsu -v on the Linux host and compare the version it reports with Dell’s current security advisory, DSA-2026-324. Dell says DSU versions earlier than 2.3.0.0 are affected; 2.3.0.0 or later is remediated for that advisory. This check establishes the DSU version only—it does not certify the rest of the host as patched or secure.
Check the installed DSU version

On the Linux host where Dell System Update (DSU) is installed, run:
dsu -vDell’s Linux user guide documents this command, as well as
dsu --version, for displaying the version. It also documentsdsu -hfor help and to check the installation. The guide is for DSU 1.9.2.0, so use the current advisory—not that older guide—to determine which version is fixed. Dell DSU Linux user guide. -
Record the exact output, the host name, and when you ran the command. If a wrapper, scheduled task, or deployment image runs DSU, check the version in that actual execution environment rather than assuming an interactive shell uses the same installation.

What Dell’s current advisory says
Dell initially released DSA-2026-324 on October 1, 2026, rated its impact Critical, and listed five vulnerabilities affecting DSU versions earlier than 2.3.0.0. Dell recommends upgrading at the earliest opportunity. The advisory gives these CVSS base scores:

Dell describes CVE-2026-86360 as a path traversal issue that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with root privileges under the conditions specified in the advisory. These are Dell’s base scores, not a risk assessment for a specific server; Dell advises considering relevant temporal and environmental scores as well.
If the installed version is earlier than 2.3.0.0
Obtain the remediated release through Dell’s advisory remediation link or a Dell-supported package channel, then install it using the process appropriate to your distribution and managed environment. After installation, run dsu -v again and retain the output with the change record. A successful upgrade should report 2.3.0.0 or later.

Dell describes DSU as a script-optimized tool for deploying Dell Update Packages on PowerEdge servers. For Linux, Dell identifies the Dell Enterprise Catalog, a custom catalog created with Dell Repository Manager, and the Dell Linux Repository as possible package sources. Its product page lists Linux packages for supported RHEL, SLES, and Ubuntu releases and says DSU is designed to work with community distributions such as Debian. Check current Dell guidance for the host’s OS release, package source, and deployment method before changing a managed server: Dell System Update product information.
If your organization mirrors or pins packages, verify what DSU version is actually available in the configured channel. Dell’s Linux repository page lists dated snapshots, including September 2026 releases, and distinguishes a moving latest repository from pinned version-specific locations: Dell Linux repositories.

What this check does—and does not—verify

It verifies the installed DSU version reported by the command. Comparing that version with DSA-2026-324 tells you whether it meets that advisory’s fixed-version threshold.

It does not establish that the server is fully patched or secure. It says nothing by itself about other software, firmware, or host security controls.
For an auditable record, retain the command output, host identity, check time, package source, and change record. Keep the conclusion scoped to DSU and this advisory.
