Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchVerify an Exchange Server update in layers: compare the server’s build and detected security or interim hotfix with Microsoft’s current build table, review setup logs, check required services, and then test mailbox logon through MAPI and Outlook. A matching build confirms update state—not that users can connect or mail can flow.
1. Identify the exact update you expected to install
Record the server name, Exchange version and cumulative update (CU), and the specific security update (SU) or hotfix update (HU) you applied. Compare the server with Microsoft’s Exchange Server build numbers and release dates. Use the entry for the correct Exchange generation and update; the page changes as releases ship, so do not rely on a remembered “latest” build.
A CU-level match alone does not establish that an SU or HU is installed. Keep the expected target for the specific server in view as you perform the checks below.
2. Confirm the installed build and hotfix
In Exchange Management Shell, generate Microsoft’s Exchange HealthChecker report and inspect its Build Number and Exchange IU or Security Hotfix Detected fields. HealthChecker can report the build and detected interim or security hotfix. Microsoft also documents checking the file version of ExSetup.exe as an installation-version check. Use Microsoft’s build table to interpret the reported version.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a quick view of the Exchange CU-level version, run:
Get-ExchangeServer -Identity <server> | Format-List Name,Edition,AdminDisplayVersion
Replace <server> with the server identity. AdminDisplayVersion is useful for the CU-level build, but Microsoft notes that it does not show whether an SU or HU is installed. Do not treat it as a complete hotfix verification.

3. Review setup records and required services
Inspect the setup log and Windows event log
Check the Exchange Setup log at <system drive>:ExchangeSetupLogsExchangeSetup.log, where <system drive> is the drive containing Windows. Review the relevant installation period, searching for errors and reading the surrounding entries rather than relying on an isolated match. The log records readiness checks, installation progress, and configuration changes. Also inspect the Windows Application log for setup-related events or errors. Microsoft documents these checks in its installation verification guidance.

Check role-required services
Run this in Exchange Management Shell:
Test-ServiceHealth -Server <server>
You can also run Test-ServiceHealth locally without parameters. The cmdlet checks whether services required by the server’s configured Exchange roles are running. Investigate any required, automatically started service that is not running; use the server role and the named service to guide troubleshooting. Microsoft describes the result this way: “The Test-ServiceHealth cmdlet returns an error for any service required by a configured role when the service is set to start automatically and isn’t currently running.”
Test-ServiceHealth has a documented limitation: Microsoft says it is unsupported on Exchange 2013 Client Access servers because the output can be unexpected. See the Test-ServiceHealth documentation for the cmdlet’s behavior and limitation.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
4. Test access to a mailbox
Run a MAPI connectivity test
Test a specific mailbox with:
Test-MAPIConnectivity -Identity <mailbox>
Substitute the mailbox identity you want to test. The cmdlet attempts a mailbox logon, retrieves Inbox items, and checks MAPI- and LDAP-related authentication and mailbox/database operation. It can also be used with its database or server parameter set to test the relevant system mailbox or active databases. Choose the target that corresponds to the reported failure. Details are in Microsoft’s Test-MAPIConnectivity documentation.
Probe the Outlook client path
If users cannot connect with Outlook, run a suitable deep Test-OutlookConnectivity probe for the deployment’s protocol, such as MAPI over HTTP or Outlook Anywhere. A self-test probe only checks whether the endpoint can receive traffic; it does not log in to a mailbox. A deep probe attempts a mailbox connection and logon, so it provides stronger evidence for the user-facing Outlook path. Make sure the protocol and probe identity match the environment and that the probe targets the intended mailbox or database.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.5. Check web access and mail delivery separately
OWA and ECP
If the reported problem is Outlook on the web (OWA) or the Exchange admin center (ECP), test those URLs directly after the update. A successful MAPI or Outlook test does not establish that either web surface works. Microsoft documents a case in which a security update installed without elevation on a server with User Account Control enabled can leave files or configuration inconsistent. Follow the version-specific steps in Microsoft’s OWA or ECP troubleshooting guidance only when the symptoms and installation circumstances fit. Its example paths assume a particular Exchange installation layout; adapt them to the server’s actual version and installation directory.
Internal and connector mail flow
Use Test-Mailflow to check delivery between Exchange system mailboxes. This is an internal mail-flow check, not a user mailbox sign-in test. If the environment routes mail between Microsoft 365 and on-premises Exchange, validate the configured connector route using Microsoft’s Exchange Online connector validation process. Neither check substitutes for testing the affected user’s mailbox access. See the Test-Mailflow documentation.

Use the failing layer to narrow the problem
- The reported build is wrong or the expected hotfix is not detected: recheck the target Exchange generation and intended CU, SU, or HU against Microsoft’s build table. Do not infer SU/HU installation from
AdminDisplayVersion. - The build matches, but a required service is stopped: investigate the specific service and configured role reported by
Test-ServiceHealth. - Services pass, but MAPI connectivity fails: focus on mailbox/database access and the authentication or directory dependencies exercised by the test.
- MAPI succeeds, but Outlook fails: use a deep probe for the correct Outlook protocol and confirm its mailbox or database selection.
- Mailbox access works, but OWA or ECP fails: investigate that web endpoint separately; if the security update was installed manually, check whether the elevation and file/configuration symptoms match Microsoft’s documented case.
- Mailbox logon succeeds, but messages do not arrive: run the relevant mail-flow check and validate the configured connector route when Microsoft 365 and on-premises Exchange are involved.
Do not rely on the Microsoft 365 update-status view alone
Microsoft’s Software updates page describes the Microsoft 365 admin center view as a preview; its Exchange tab does not list the specific servers that are behind on builds. Treat it as status context, not definitive per-server verification. The page states it was last updated April 30, 2025, which is documentation metadata—not evidence of a server’s current update state. See View software update status for Exchange Server installations.
