To check whether a Kerala government website or digital service is genuine, find it through an independently opened Kerala government portal or department page, compare the complete web address, and confirm the service and department match. Do not rely on a logo, familiar design, search result, or HTTPS padlock by itself. Before entering information, read the service’s own privacy notice and terms.
Start from an official Kerala service directory
Rather than opening a link from a text message, email, social post, or search advertisement, type a trusted government address into your browser or use a saved official bookmark. The Government of Kerala’s eSevanam service portal identifies itself as the state’s official service portal; it says it is owned by Kerala State IT Mission and developed by C-DIT. The Kerala e-services dashboard is another place to look for listed services and websites.
Find the service name and responsible department in the directory. Open the listed destination from there, then check that the page you reach is for the service you intended to use. The dashboard displayed 46 departments, 546 services, and 63 websites when accessed on October 4, 2026; these are changeable dashboard figures, not permanent totals.
Check the complete URL, not just the page
Before logging in, uploading documents, or paying, inspect the full web address in the browser’s address bar. Compare it with the address reached from the official Kerala listing. Watch for misspellings, extra words, substituted characters, or a hostname that only resembles the government service’s name.

India’s Guidelines for Indian Government Websites and apps describe .gov.in and .nic.in as strong indicators of government status and call a government website’s URL a strong authenticity indicator. But a domain suffix is not a complete check: Kerala’s official service listings include portals on other domains. Verify the exact destination against an independently reached Kerala government directory or the responsible department rather than rejecting a service by suffix alone.
A logo, emblem, government-style layout, or HTTPS connection is not proof that a page is the right official service. Delhi Police’s guidance on fake websites cautions that government symbols do not establish authenticity and recommends checking cross-references. HTTPS protects a connection; it does not establish who operates a site.

Cross-check the service with the department
Look for the service linked from an official Kerala department page or the e-services dashboard. Confirm that the department name and service purpose match what the page claims. If the link is missing, unclear, or different from the one you received, contact the department using a phone number or email address found independently on an official government page—not contact details contained only in the questionable message or website.

- Is the exact URL listed on an independently opened Kerala government page?
- Do the service and department names match the official listing?
- Can the responsible department independently confirm that destination?
- Does the information requested fit the service’s stated purpose and privacy terms?
Read the service’s privacy notice before entering details
Check the privacy policy and terms on the particular portal you plan to use. Look for what information is requested, why it is collected, which fields are required, and any stated account or registration conditions. Pause if a page asks for information that seems unrelated to the service, or if it gives no clear explanation for collecting it.
For example, Kerala e-District publishes its own privacy policy and terms. Its terms say registration for services is Aadhaar-linked, with an exception stated for bill payments; its privacy policy says users will be told the purposes for which requested personal information is gathered and describes security measures. These statements concern e-District, not every Kerala department or service. Read the current notice for the specific portal and service before submitting information.

What to do with a suspicious link or urgent request
If an unsolicited message demands immediate action, payment, or personal details, do not use its link to investigate. Navigate to the department or service independently and confirm whether the request is genuine. A convincing logo or official-sounding wording does not make an urgent demand trustworthy.
Kerala Police’s Cyberwall can assess suspicious links and messages, but its FAQ warns that automated results may be incorrect. Treat it as an advisory aid, not a final authentication decision. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has a “Report Suspect” facility for suspicious website URLs and other identifiers. If you have lost money or become a cybercrime victim, the portal says to report promptly online or call 1930.

Quick check before you submit
- Open eSevanam, the Kerala e-services dashboard, or the responsible department’s official page independently.
- Find the service listing and open its linked destination.
- Compare the complete browser URL with the official listing; check the hostname for lookalikes or unexpected changes.
- Confirm the service and department, and contact the department through independently found details if anything does not match.
- Read the service-specific privacy notice and terms, then decide whether the requested details fit the stated purpose.
- If the link remains suspicious, do not submit information; consider Cyberwall for an advisory check or report the URL through the national cybercrime portal.
