After the broadcast, open YouTube Studio > Content > Live, select the stream, then choose Analytics > Engagement to review its audience, including peak concurrent viewers. Studio’s menu labels can vary as YouTube rolls out interface changes.
Check analytics while your stream is live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the active broadcast.
- Check stream status for health information or errors before interpreting audience figures.
- Review the real-time cards available for your stream. On a computer, YouTube lists concurrent viewers, duration, likes, chat rate, views, and estimated average view duration. Which cards appear can depend on how the stream was started. YouTube’s Live Control Room guide describes these controls and metrics.
Treat live figures as monitoring information, not necessarily the final report. YouTube says Analytics data is keyed to the video ID, processed, and despammed, and measures different information from Live Control Room. The two views can therefore differ.
Find the ended stream’s analytics
- In YouTube Studio, select Content, then the Live tab. Depending on the Studio layout you see, menu labels may vary.
- Select the ended stream.
- Open Analytics, then Engagement.
The video-level concurrent-viewer report is generally available within minutes after a stream ends. The report can also include chat messages. See YouTube’s guide to live-stream analytics.
Choose the right report and date range
YouTube Analytics can filter content as Live, On demand, or Live & on demand. For an individual broadcast, open its video-level analytics; for channel-level patterns, use channel analytics. Keep those levels separate when comparing results.

Watch-time reporting can include watch time, audience retention, demographics, playback locations, traffic sources, and devices. Content/Live reporting also describes how viewers found live streams and reports peak and average concurrent viewers. Advanced Mode offers expanded reports, comparisons, and export options. YouTube says a Studio update is rolling out gradually beginning July 2026, so the interface may not look the same for every creator. YouTube’s Analytics overview explains reports and filters.
Understand the metrics before judging a stream

YouTube’s definitions and report descriptions are available in its Live Control Room guide and live-stream analytics guide. There is no universal “good” peak or average established by these reports: results need context such as stream duration, format, audience, and channel.

Compare streams fairly
- Compare the same reporting level—video with video, or channel with channel—and use the same date range.
- Consider average and peak concurrent viewers together, then add watch time and average view duration.
- Use retention, chat activity, and traffic sources to investigate how people watched and where they came from.
- Account for duration and format. A longer event or a combined horizontal-and-vertical broadcast may not be directly comparable to a shorter, single-format stream.
Separate vertical-stream data from a dual-format broadcast
When you stream horizontal and vertical formats at the same time, Live Control Room combines their metrics. To inspect the vertical stream separately, YouTube’s documented workflow requires waiting at least 24 hours after the stream ends:
- Open the ended stream in YouTube Studio and select Analytics.
- Open Advanced Mode.
- Choose Playback location as the breakdown.
- Set a period longer than the first 24 hours, then choose Vertical live feed.

Use channel audience data to plan a future stream
In YouTube Studio’s Audience tab, the When your viewers are on YouTube report uses the last 28 days of channel audience data and can inform scheduling. It is channel-level context, not a substitute for an individual stream’s results. YouTube notes that audience and demographic data may be limited. See YouTube’s analytics guide.
