For a PartyBox model that supports the JBL PartyBox app, connect your phone to the speaker over Bluetooth, open the app, select the speaker, and use the controls available for that model. Supported controls can include playback and source selection, Bass Boost, karaoke microphone tone settings, and light-show options. PartyBox 200 and 300 are an exception: JBL says to change their light shows on the speaker, not in the app.
Check whether your PartyBox supports the controls you want
App compatibility and available features depend on the exact speaker model. JBL’s app support article names the PartyBox Encore, Encore Essential, 110, 310, and 710. JBL’s release notes also document support additions including the PartyBox On-The-Go 2, PartyBox 720, Encore 2, and Encore Essential 2. Check JBL’s current support information or the app for your full model name before relying on a particular control; the support article’s list may not include every later addition.
For supported devices, JBL lists playback controls, source selection, Bass Boost, karaoke microphone tone adjustment, assigning DJ sound effects, top-panel controls, light-show changes, animation and strobe toggles, color customization, and speaker-linking options. Which of these appear can vary by model.

Connect your phone to the speaker
The PartyBox Encore Essential 2 manual describes pairing by Bluetooth. Its steps are model-specific, but they provide the basic connection pattern:
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL JBL ORIGINAL PRO SOUND: Whether you're at home or outdoors, the JBL PartyBox 110 makes your music amazing with two levels of deep, adjustable bass and 160W powerful JBL Signature Sound.
- 12 HOURS OF PLAYTIME AND PORTABLE DESIGN: Power the party all day or all night. With 12 hours of playtime and a built-in rechargeable battery, the beat will go on (and on)
- IPX4 SPLASHPROOF: Whether your guests are dancing on the beach or sipping drinks by the pool, the JBL PartyBox 110 is IPX4 splashproof so you never have to worry about the party getting too wet and wild.
- PARTYBOX APP: The JBL PartyBox app makes it easier than ever to control your music, update settings, and customize the colors and patterns of your light show for the perfect party vibe.
- PARTY LIGHTS: Every kind of music is better with a dynamic light show. Colors synched to the beat make you want to move your feet, while customizable strobes and patterns dazzle your eyes. It's a unique, immersive audiovisual experience that transforms any party into a work of art.
- Press the Bluetooth button on the speaker.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone and select the PartyBox name.
- After the phone connects, open the JBL PartyBox app and select the speaker if prompted.
The Encore Essential 2 can reconnect to the last connected device, or you can select it manually. App screens and connection behavior can differ on other models. See the Encore Essential 2 owner’s manual for that speaker’s instructions.
Adjust sound in the app
Once connected, open the sound or speaker controls shown for your model. JBL lists remote playback controls, source selection, Bass Boost, and karaoke microphone Bass, Treble, and Echo adjustment. These microphone tone controls apply to karaoke input; they do not establish that the app provides a general music equalizer.

- Powerful JBL Pro Sound: Two 6.5" woofers that deliver clean, precise, deep bass even at top volume and a pair of 25mm dome tweeters that produce crystal clear highs. Loud enough to fill a space the size of a tennis court with music.
- Futuristic lightshow: Take all that sound and add a thrilling lightshow featuring starry lights, cool light trails, and strobe light effects—all synced to your beat.
- Up to 18 hours of play time: Party from dusk till dawn with up to 18 hours on a single charge. Not enough? Swap out the replaceable battery and keep on dancing. 10 min fast charge gets you an extra 2 hours of playtime.Replaceable battery sold separately
- Telescopic handle and wide, sturdy wheels: Roll up to the party with wide, sturdy wheels and an easy-to-grip handle that telescopes up when you need it and down when you don't.
- Splash proof: Whether you're partying with friends in the park or by the seaside, the JBL PartyBox Stage 320 is IPX4 splashproof, means a little rain won't stop the fun.
JBL’s release notes dated January 15, 2025 say the microphone Bass, Treble, and Echo adjustment range increased from six to twelve levels. That is a feature change documented for the app, not a usage statistic, and does not mean every PartyBox has identical screens or controls.
Change the light show
For models with app-based lighting controls
Open the lighting or light-show controls for the connected speaker. Depending on the model, JBL lists options to change themes and animations, toggle animation or strobe, customize colors, and use SOLO mode. Use the labels and options displayed for your particular speaker; availability can vary.

- 240 watts of powerful JBL pro sound
- Mesmerize your crowd with a dazzling, dynamic light show that dances to the beat with subtle pulsing and powerful strobing effects
- Long lasting sound with 18 hours of music-blasting battery life
- Crafted with ipx4 splashproof protection, the JBL partybox 310 keeps the music going — rain or shine
- Switch tracks, change up the light show, control karaoke features and more all from your phone with the partybox app.
For PartyBox 200 and 300
Use the physical Light Show button under the Bluetooth icon to cycle among the three light shows. JBL’s model-specific support page says the app does not control or modify these settings: “There is no app developed to control or modify these settings, all settings have to be done on the Partybox device.”

For the Encore Essential 2, JBL’s manual recommends checking that Bluetooth is enabled, moving the phone closer if reception is poor, and disconnecting another connected phone if needed. If the speaker’s top panel is locked, most top-panel controls are disabled; the manual points users to the app to unlock it. These instructions are specific to the Encore Essential 2, so consult the manual for another model if its controls behave differently.

- Superior JBL Pro Sound: We’re cranking out 800 watts of JBL Pro Sound—loud, clean, and full of deep bass from those two massive 9” woofers. The tweeters keep the highs crisp and clear, so every track hits just right and the dance floor stays packed.
- Futuristic lightshow: Mix all that epic sound with a lightshow to match—vibrant stars, flowing trails, and strobes that move with the beat. It’s a full-on vibe.
- Up to 15 hours playtime: Keep the music going for up to 15 hours on a single charge. Need more juice? Swap in the backup batteries (sold separately) and keep it moving. Just need a quick boost? A 10-minute fast charge gets you up to 2 extra hours of playtime.
- Ergonomic integrated handle and wider sturdy wheels: Taking the party outside just got easier—wider wheels roll smooth on rough ground, and the built-in handle makes it easy to grab and go.
- IPX4 Splash proof: Whether we’re hanging in the park or chilling by the pool, the PartyBox 720 is IPX4 splash proof—so a little water is no big deal.
If a sound or lighting option is absent, first confirm the full model and check its current JBL support information. Do not assume that a feature shown for one PartyBox model is available on another.
