To limit a child’s Roblox chat, spending, and access to experiences, first link your own age-checked Roblox account with parent privileges to the child’s account. Then manage communication, spending restrictions, and content restrictions under Settings > Parental Controls. These controls have important exceptions: Roblox’s spending limit does not cover gift-card redemptions or Xbox purchases, and Roblox chat settings do not control every chat feature built independently into an experience.
Before you start: link your parent account
You need a separate Roblox account with parent privileges linked to your child’s account. Roblox requires an age-checked adult account for parent privileges; its FAQ says parents of children under 18 can add them in most regions. The menus and availability can vary by region and account type. See Roblox’s Parental Controls FAQ and account-linking instructions.
- Sign in to your parent Roblox account on Roblox.com or in the Roblox mobile app.
- Open Settings > Parental Controls > Add parent.
- Follow the prompts to complete age checking and link your child’s account.
Once linked, you can manage settings from your own account rather than signing in as your child. If the accounts become unlinked, you lose the ability to manage their controls and view certain account information.
Limit chat and communication
Open Settings > Parental Controls > Settings you Manage > Communication. Review the available controls for game or experience chat, direct chat, friends chat, and party settings. Change the channels you want to restrict using the options shown for the child’s account.

Available controls depend on the child’s age, age check, account type, and region. Roblox’s help pages describe parental-consent requirements for some chat features, but thresholds and wording differ among features and account types. Use the in-account controls and Roblox’s current Parental Controls Overview, Experience Chat, and chat guidance to confirm what applies.
Roblox’s controls do not govern chat features that an experience developer built independently. Roblox says Experience chat is filtered, but filtering is not the same as disabling every possible interaction. Check an experience’s own features and settings as well.

Set spending limits and notifications
Go to Settings > Parental Controls > Settings you Manage > Spending restrictions. Set the monthly spending limit and choose whether to receive spending notifications. The limit resets at the end of the calendar month; unused allowance does not roll over. Roblox’s Monthly Spending Limits page explains the limit, and its spending limits and notifications FAQ describes eligibility.
Roblox says monthly limits generally apply to children under 13 in most regions and stop applying at age 13. Spending notifications may still be available for teens. The limit applies to Roblox purchases such as Robux and subscriptions, but not gift-card redemptions. It also does not cover Xbox spending; use Xbox’s own spending or purchase-approval controls for transactions made there.

Roblox’s overview describes default monthly notification thresholds of $100, $250, and $500, or local-currency equivalents, followed by a notification every ten transactions after $500. These are alert thresholds, not spending limits or budget recommendations. Check the current in-account notification options because settings and eligibility can change.
Restrict experiences by maturity or title
Open Settings > Parental Controls, select the child, and go to Settings you Manage > Content restrictions. Roblox provides both a broad maturity setting and controls for individual experiences.

Choose a content maturity level
Set the Content maturity level to restrict experiences by Roblox’s labels: Minimal, Mild, Moderate, or Restricted. Roblox says Restricted is available only to age-verified adults. Roblox Kids and Roblox Select have their own age-based defaults, and the options a child sees may vary with region and account settings. Allow or block particular experiences
Use Allowed games or Blocked games to make a decision about a specific title. A block applies regardless of the experience’s maturity label. Roblox notes that a blocked experience may still appear in search results. If the child is playing it when you block it, the change takes effect the next time they enter that experience. Roblox describes this option in its Parental Controls FAQ.

Optional: review screen time and activity
Roblox also lets a parent set a daily screen-time limit and view the child’s top 20 experiences from the previous week. The platform-wide screen-time graph and the list of per-experience activity show different views of use. These tools are separate from communication, spending, and content restrictions; see Managing Screen Time.
What these controls do not cover
- Every kind of interaction: Roblox chat settings do not control chat systems independently built inside experiences.
- Gift-card redemptions: Roblox’s monthly spending limit does not affect them.
- Xbox purchases: Roblox’s limit does not apply; configure purchase controls through Xbox.
- Every age or account: spending eligibility and communication options change with age, age checking, region, and account type. Roblox says spending limits no longer apply at age 13, though notifications may remain available.
Roblox changes menus, eligibility, and feature availability over time. The official help pages linked above did not state publication or update dates in the material reviewed on October 7, 2026, so check the current pages and the child’s in-account settings when configuring controls.
