Avnet documents a PetaLinux BSP for the ZUBoard 1CG and lists a Motor Control Virtual Workshop dated January 18, 2024. Those resources make the board a reasonable starting point for exploration, but the product page does not establish a complete motor-control design or identify a compatible motor driver. Treat the BSP and workshop listing as a learning path—not proof that a particular motor setup is ready to build.

What the ZUBoard 1CG offers for embedded Linux

Avnet describes the ZUBoard 1CG as an entry-level development board based on AMD’s Zynq UltraScale+ architecture. Its published device identifier is XCZU1CG-1SBVA484E. The board combines Arm processing cores with programmable logic, so a design can place Linux-oriented application work on the application processors while using the programmable logic and real-time processing resources where the design requires them.

Published specification Avnet listing
Application processors Dual Arm Cortex-A53 cores
Real-time processors Dual Arm Cortex-R5F cores
Programmable logic 81,900 FPGA logic cells
Memory 1GB ISSI LPDDR4
Nonvolatile storage and boot 256Mb QSPI flash; microSD boot
Other listed hardware Ethernet, USB 2.0, onboard JTAG/UART, temperature and pressure sensors, expansion connectors, and Click Board sites

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. See Avnet’s ZUBoard 1CG product page for the board listing and its downloadable resources.

Find and verify the PetaLinux BSP before building

Avnet lists a board support package under “ZUBoard 1CG — Petalinux 2022+” and identifies PetaLinux BSPs and reference designs as downloadable resources. The label confirms a documented BSP listing, but it does not establish the newest PetaLinux release currently supported. Check the current BSP notes and their required tool versions before choosing an installation or starting a build.

  • Stable Communication: For stable signal transmission in smart home and IoT applications
  • Beginner-Friendly Resources: Comes with a comprehensive user manualand step-by-step tutorials,Technical support and driver downloads are available to help you get started quickly

The development kit is AES-ZUB-1CG-DK-G. Avnet says it includes the ZUBoard 1CG and a quick-start card, with downloadable AMD Vitis, Vivado ML Standard Edition, a PetaLinux BSP, and reference designs. The downloadable software and designs should not be mistaken for evidence that a motor-control design is included or preconfigured. Details are on Avnet’s product page.

What Avnet’s motor-control listing does—and does not—confirm

The product page lists “Motor Control Virtual Workshop, Jan 18, 2024.” This establishes that Avnet listed a workshop with that title and date. The surfaced listing does not specify the motor type, driver, control algorithm, prerequisites, how the ZUBoard is used, or whether a recording is currently available. It therefore cannot substantiate a claim that a particular motor-control reference design has been tested on this board.

A separate Avnet Silica PetaLinux workshop listing describes developing a Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC embedded platform with AMD PetaLinux and adding sensors to the board. That is relevant context for learning the software workflow, but it does not provide the missing technical details of the motor-control workshop.

What to check before connecting a motor

The board has expansion connectors and Click Board sites, but the product listing does not identify a specific compatible motor-control module. Before selecting an add-on or wiring a system, verify the design against the actual board documentation and the module’s specifications:

  • Connector pin mapping and whether the required control signals are available.
  • Voltage and current ratings across the board, driver, and motor.
  • Whether the application requires electrical isolation or additional protection.
  • Compatibility among the motor type, motor driver, and intended control method.
  • Software and toolchain support for the selected driver and control implementation.

Expansion support makes add-on hardware a plausible route; it is not confirmation that a given module fits electrically or is supported in software.

Power down the board safely

Avnet’s hardware guide documents board-specific power-button behavior. A short press while the board is running signals the PMU to shut down. Holding the button for about 10 seconds can force power-off if the PMU does not issue its power-kill signal. This hardware behavior is not a replacement for a software shutdown procedure. Consult the ZUBoard 1CG hardware guide for the documented behavior.
