You can link two Bose Bluetooth speakers only when their models and generations support the same linking system. First check both model names: older Bose Connect-compatible SoundLink speakers use Party/Stereo Mode, newer shortcut-button models use Speaker Link, and SoundLink Home pairs only with another SoundLink Home in Stereo Mode.

Check whether your two Bose speakers are compatible

Party Mode plays the same audio through both speakers in unison. Stereo Mode separates the left and right audio channels. Bose’s compatibility lists differ by product family, so “Bose Bluetooth speaker” alone is not enough to establish that a pair will work.

Legacy Bose Connect-compatible models SoundLink Flex, SoundLink Micro, SoundLink Color II, SoundLink Revolve (series I and II), and SoundLink Revolve+ (series I and II). SoundLink Flex, SoundLink Micro, SoundLink Color II, SoundLink Revolve II, and SoundLink Revolve+ II. The original Revolve and Revolve+ are not on Bose’s Stereo Mode list. Current shortcut-button / Speaker Link models SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen), SoundLink Max Portable Speaker, SoundLink Micro Portable Speaker (2nd Gen), and SoundLink Plus Portable Speaker are listed for Speaker Link. Bose cautions that mixed models may offer Party Mode only. Only two of the same model can use Stereo Mode. Shortcut button or Bose app’s Speaker Link controls. Bose SoundLink Plus instructions
SoundLink Home Not supported. Only with another SoundLink Home. Manual Bluetooth-and-volume button sequence; Bose says the app is not supported for this pairing. Bose instructions

These instructions do not apply to every Bose speaker. Check the full model name and generation printed on the speaker or shown in the Bose app before trying to link it.

Use Party or Stereo Mode with legacy Bose Connect-compatible speakers

Bose recommends the Bose Connect app for compatible products and also documents a manual pairing sequence. The button steps below are for the named legacy models, not a universal Bose shortcut.

  1. Turn on both speakers and connect your phone to one of them.
  2. On the connected speaker, press and hold Bluetooth and volume up (+) together. Release the buttons when it says, “Press the Bluetooth and volume down buttons simultaneously on a second Bose device.”
  3. On the second speaker, press and hold Bluetooth and volume down (–) together. Release when it emits a tone.
  4. Wait about 10 seconds. Both speakers should announce Party Mode and play the same audio in unison.
  5. To switch to Stereo Mode, press and hold Bluetooth and volume up (+) on either linked speaker until it announces “Stereo Mode.” Repeat the action to return to Party Mode.

If your pair includes an original SoundLink Revolve or Revolve+, Bose lists those models for Party Mode but not Stereo Mode. Check Bose’s legacy model instructions rather than assuming every compatible Party Mode pair can switch to Stereo Mode.

Use Speaker Link on current shortcut-button models

Bose lists SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen), SoundLink Max Portable Speaker, SoundLink Micro Portable Speaker (2nd Gen), and SoundLink Plus Portable Speaker for its current Speaker Link system. For Stereo Mode, the two speakers must be the same model.

  1. Link the compatible speakers using the shortcut button or Bose app. On SoundLink Plus, Bose says the shortcut button is configured for linking when the speaker is new; follow the instructions for your exact model for its initial linking sequence.
  2. Once linked, press the shortcut button to toggle between available modes. On SoundLink Plus, you can also open the Bose app, go to the speaker group, select Speaker Link, and switch on “Stereo (L/R)” for Stereo Mode.

Bose’s SoundLink Plus instructions document these mode controls, but the precise initial-link sequence can vary by model. Use the instructions for your speaker instead of applying the legacy Bluetooth-plus-volume sequence. See Bose’s SoundLink Plus guidance.

Pair two SoundLink Home speakers

SoundLink Home has its own manual pairing process. It supports Stereo Mode only, and Bose says it pairs only with another SoundLink Home—not other Bose speaker models or through the Bose or Bose Connect app.

Don’t confuse Speaker Link with SimpleSync

SimpleSync is a separate Bose feature for grouping selected Bose smart speakers or soundbars with one compatible Bluetooth product. It is not another name for portable-speaker Party or Stereo Mode. Bose notes that a soundbar connection through SimpleSync may have a slight audio delay when watching video. Read Bose’s SimpleSync guidance.
