To use mouse controls in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, play on Nintendo Switch 2 with Joy-Con 2. Nintendo confirms that the game supports mouse controls with these controllers and lets you switch between mouse and button controls. By default, the right Joy-Con 2 reportedly enters mouse mode when you set it on a flat surface, and lifting it returns to button controls.
What you need
- Nintendo Switch 2: The game’s mouse-control feature uses Joy-Con 2 controllers.
- Right Joy-Con 2: Use it as the mouse on a flat surface, according to RPG Site’s control guide.
Nintendo describes this as the first Fire Emblem game with mouse controls. The company says the controls let you move units across the battlefield, access helpful information, and switch between mouse and button controls. Nintendo’s game page
How to activate mouse mode
- Start Fortune’s Weave on Nintendo Switch 2 with Joy-Con 2 controllers.
- For the reported default behavior, place the right Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface and move it as you would a mouse. RPG Site reports that this triggers mouse controls automatically.
- Lift the right Joy-Con 2 to return to button controls. Nintendo confirms that switching between the two control styles is supported; the specific place-down and lift behavior comes from RPG Site’s guide.
Using mouse controls on the battlefield
Move the cursor across the map grid, then select a tile to move a unit or select an enemy to attack, as described by RPG Site. The guide also reports that you can move a character with the left Joy-Con 2 stick while using the right Joy-Con 2 as a mouse.
Reported mouse inputs
- R: Left click.
- ZR: Right click.
RPG Site also mentions zooming and switching units, but its guide does not give a complete button map. Treat these as examples rather than a full list of every available input.

Change automatic switching behavior
RPG Site says the automatic switching behavior can be changed in the game’s settings. The guide does not specify an exact menu path, so look in the in-game settings rather than relying on a particular menu label. Nintendo confirms that mouse and button controls can be changed between during play, but does not document the setup steps on its game page.
Check for a software update
Nintendo Support lists software update Ver. 1.0.1 as released on 16 September 2026. Its notes mention additional weapons and general issue fixes, but do not identify a mouse-control change. To check for an update:

- On the Switch 2 HOME Menu, highlight Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
- Press + or −.
- Choose Software Update, then Over the Internet.
These steps and update notes are listed by Nintendo Support. The available update notes do not establish whether a later patch changes mouse behavior.

Mouse controls offer a cursor-based way to select map tiles and access information; button controls remain available whenever you prefer them. Whether mouse mode is more comfortable depends on how you like to hold the Joy-Con 2 and whether you have a suitable flat surface. You can try both styles and use the switching behavior that suits you.
