You can customize some app-opening effects on a Galaxy Z Fold with Samsung’s Good Lock and Home Up, but that is different from an animation that follows the phone’s hinge as you fold it. For the latter, an unofficial project called ZFoldDuo documents an experimental option for Fold7 and Fold8 running Android 16 or later. Samsung’s built-in Full screen apps setting helps apps continue between the cover and main displays, but does not add a hinge animation.
What “iPhone-style fold animation” can mean
There are three separate goals that are easy to mix up:
- App launch and exit effects: animations shown when opening or leaving apps. Samsung’s Good Lock module Home Up offers Home screen and gesture-animation customization, and One UI 8 coverage reported added control over app launch animations. Available options depend on your phone and installed software.
- Hinge-following transition: a visual effect that changes as the physical phone opens or closes, spanning the cover and inner displays. ZFoldDuo is an unofficial experimental project describing this kind of effect.
- App continuity: keeping an app usable as you move between the cover and main screens. Samsung provides a built-in setting for this, but it does not create the same visual effect as a hinge-driven animation.
There is no basis to promise an exact iPhone animation from Samsung’s standard settings. Choose the route below according to whether you want to change app-launch styling, improve continuity, or try an experimental physical-fold effect.
How do I change app opening and closing animations on a Galaxy Z Fold?
Start with Samsung’s Good Lock and its Home Up module. Samsung says Good Lock modules can vary by device and software version, so check what is offered for your Fold rather than relying on a fixed menu path or expecting identical controls on every build.

- Open the Galaxy Store, find and install Good Lock if it is available for your device.
- Open Good Lock and check whether Home Up is listed and available to install.
- Open Home Up and inspect its Home screen or animation-customization area for the controls present on your version. Samsung documents Home screen and gesture-animation customization; app launch-animation controls have also been reported for One UI 8. The exact labels and effects can differ by build.
This is the supported customization route to investigate for app and Home animations. It changes interface effects; it should not be confused with an animation synchronized to the Fold’s hinge.
How to keep apps usable when switching Fold screens
If your goal is to continue using an app as you open or close the phone, use Samsung’s built-in full-screen app setting rather than an animation module:

- Select the app you want to configure.
- Select Full screen.

ZFoldDuo is a public, unofficial project that describes an iPhone Duo-inspired transition following hinge angle across the cover and inner displays. Its repository lists the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Fold8 on Android 16 or later; older Fold models are explicitly untested. This is a project-specific compatibility claim, not a Samsung feature or guarantee that every configuration will work.

The project author’s documented setup is:
- Install the project’s APK.
- Enable Wireless debugging in Android Developer options.
- Pair the on-device service using the displayed pairing code.
- Enable the service in Android Accessibility settings.
According to the project documentation, accessibility access is used for a touch-through overlay. The project depends on private Samsung interfaces, which can change and break compatibility. Its author says it is “not currently stable or ready for everyday use”; it may also require folding and unfolding the phone or restarting after a force-stop during a display transition. These are the project’s own setup notes and warnings, not independently verified directions or a Samsung-supported procedure. Review the repository’s current ZFoldDuo project documentation before deciding whether to install it.

Decide whether the experimental route is appropriate
- Model and software: the project lists Fold7 and Fold8 with Android 16 or later; earlier Fold models are untested.
- Installation and access: you must be willing to install an unofficial APK, enable Wireless debugging, and grant Accessibility access.
- Reliability: expect experimental behavior and possible breakage when private Samsung interfaces change; the project is not documented as ready for daily use.
- What you actually want: if you only want app-opening effects, check Home Up first. If you need an animation driven by the physical fold, ZFoldDuo is the experimental project described here.
