Google Lens can help you find products from a live camera view, a saved photo, a webpage image or—in supported mobile workflows—a YouTube Short. Open Lens, select the item in the image, and compare the results; treat them as leads, then verify the exact product and seller on the retailer’s page before buying.
Search for a product in front of you or in a saved photo
- Open Lens. On Android, open the Google app or Chrome and tap the Lens icon in the search bar. The available entry point can vary by app and device.
- Take a photo or choose one. Point the camera at the item and capture it, or select an existing image from your device.
- Select the product. If other objects or background details are visible, draw around or tap the item to focus the search. A tighter selection can make results more specific.
- Refine the search. Add a word or phrase for the attribute you care about, such as a color, material, style or product type. For example, add “brown” or “velvet” to a couch search, or “chair” to look for that form factor.
- Review the matches. If shopping information is available, Lens may show details such as prices across retailers, deals, reviews and where to buy. The cards and information shown can vary by location and rollout.
Find an item in a webpage image or on a computer
In Chrome on a computer
Right-click an image on a webpage and choose Search with Google Lens. You can also use Google’s desktop image search by uploading an image, dragging and dropping it, or searching from an image URL. If the search offers an “Add to your search” field, enter a description such as the item type, color or material to narrow the results. See Google’s instructions for searching with an image on Google.
In Chrome on Android
Touch and hold an image on a webpage, then choose Search image with Google Lens. For this webpage-content search, Google says Chrome may use a screenshot and page data to select objects; that material is temporarily stored to process the specific query. Google also says the page or image is not used for training as a result of that use. This statement applies to Chrome webpage content search, not every Lens or Google Search use. Details are in Chrome Help for searching what you see with Google Lens.

On Android or iOS, in portrait mode, open a Short and pause it. Tap Lens, then draw around, highlight or tap the product—or another object—you want to identify. Google documents this workflow for the YouTube mobile app; it is not a general desktop Shorts procedure. See YouTube Help on using Lens in Shorts.

Compare the results before you buy
A Lens match is a visual lead, not confirmation that a listing is the exact model, variant or condition shown in your photo. Similar-looking products can differ in size, material, compatibility or included parts. Open the retailer’s listing and check:
- Identity and variant: exact model, color, size, dimensions and material.
- Price and availability: current price, shipping charges, stock and any offer terms.
- Seller and condition: who is selling it and whether it is new, used or refurbished.
- Fit and after-sales terms: compatibility, shipping time, returns and the retailer’s product reviews.
Google described Lens shopping details as showing retailer prices, deals, reviews and purchase locations where available. Its October 2024 announcement said the enhanced experience was rolling out on Android and iOS in select countries, initially for categories including toys, electronics and beauty. Results and inventory can differ by country, device, app version and rollout, so do not assume every match will have the same shopping card. Google’s October 3, 2024 announcement also reported nearly 20 billion Lens visual searches per month and said 20 percent were shopping-related; those are Google-published figures, not independently measured statistics, and the cited passage does not give a measurement methodology.

Google account history settings and Chrome’s processing of webpage content are distinct. If you do not want images used with Lens saved in Web & App Activity, Google says you can turn off Include Visual Search History. A separate Search Services History setting says Lens images may be saved when history is on and Save media is checked. Review the controls for your own account and settings; changing one history control should not be taken as a statement about every processing use. Google explains these controls in Lens visual-search history help and Search Services History help.
