Motorola lists the 2025 Razr Ultra family—called the Razr 60 Ultra in some markets—as expected to receive Android 17, but that does not mean the update is available for every handset yet. Availability can depend on region, software channel, carrier certification and partner approval. Once Android 17 is installed, its documented features include app bubbles, more limited contact sharing, local-network permissions and stronger protections for SMS one-time codes. The exact controls and behavior on your Razr may vary; Google’s Android documentation does not confirm Motorola-specific menus for each feature.
How to check for Android 17 on your Motorola Razr Ultra
Motorola’s India support listing identifies the Razr 60 Ultra as expected to receive Android 17, with partner approval potentially required. This establishes model-family eligibility, not current availability for every country, carrier or software variant. Check the support information for your region as well as the phone itself. Motorola’s Razr 60 Ultra support page
- Check your installed version: Open Settings > About phone > Device details > Android version.
- Check for an update: Open Settings > System updates > Check for updates.
- If Android 17 is offered, follow the on-screen instructions. Motorola recommends using Wi-Fi to avoid mobile data charges.
These paths come from Motorola’s Razr Ultra 2025 user guide. Menu labels can differ by software version or region.
Why Android 17 may not be showing up
A model being listed as eligible does not mean its update has been released to all owners. Motorola says release timing can vary with the model, region, distribution channel, carrier certification and partner testing. Google’s June 16, 2026 announcement said Android 17 was then rolling out to most supported Pixel devices, with new devices expected in the following months; that is platform rollout context, not confirmation of a Razr release date. If no update appears, check again later and consult Motorola support for your country and software channel. Do not assume that a listing for another region or Razr variant applies to your handset; the available evidence does not establish a universal rollout schedule.
What Android 17 adds—and what to look for on the Razr
The features below are documented at the Android platform level. They describe capabilities or behavior Android 17 can provide, not confirmed Motorola-specific switches or guaranteed behavior on every Razr Ultra. After installing the update, check the relevant app or system behavior on your own device. Google’s Android 17 release notes and first beta announcement describe these changes.

Bubbles for app conversations and activities
Android 17 Beta 2 release notes describe support for bubbling any app by long-pressing its launcher icon. On large-screen devices, bubbles can appear in a taskbar bubble bar. This can make it easier to keep supported activities accessible while using other apps. The documented behavior does not establish the exact interface on a Motorola phone, and the large-screen taskbar detail should not be taken as a Razr-specific feature.
A more focused Contacts Picker
The system-level Contacts Picker lets an app receive selected contact fields with temporary, session-based access instead of requiring broad access to the contacts list. This is a privacy improvement when an app only needs a particular contact’s details. The picker’s appearance and availability depend on how an app uses it; Android’s documentation does not say that every app or Motorola screen will present it in the same way.

Cross-device handoff for compatible apps
Android 17 describes a Handoff API that lets apps resume state across devices through CompanionDeviceManager. For example, a compatible app could let a user continue an activity on another device. This requires app support: it is not a universal handoff switch, and Android’s platform documentation does not establish support by any particular app or a Razr setting that enables it.
Permission for local-network access
Android 17 introduces an ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK permission in the NEARBY_DEVICES permission group. Apps that communicate over a local network may need this permission. Whether an app requests it—and how you manage the request on the Razr—depends on the app and the installed software. The cited release notes do not provide a Razr-specific settings path.

Delayed access to SMS one-time passwords
For most apps, Android 17 delays programmatic access to SMS messages containing one-time passwords for three hours, according to the release notes. Google directs developers toward SMS Retriever or SMS User Consent for supported verification flows. This is an app and platform security change, not a user setting to turn on; the delay is described for app programmatic access, not as a claim that a person cannot read an incoming message.
Adaptive layouts and large-screen app behavior
For apps targeting API 37 on large screens of at least 600 dp, Android 17 removes certain developer opt-outs related to orientation and resizing. This is chiefly an app-compatibility change, not a Razr toggle. It does not guarantee that every app will adapt well across the Razr’s displays; behavior depends in part on how each app is built and on the device’s implementation.

What to verify after updating
- Confirm the installed Android version in the phone’s device details.
- Try the feature in the app or workflow where it matters; platform support alone does not mean every app uses it.
- For permission prompts or menu controls, follow the labels shown on your handset rather than assuming a path documented for another Android phone.
- If the update or a feature is missing, check Motorola support for your market and carrier/software channel.
