You can use an iPhone with a Windows PC in several ways: Microsoft Phone Link provides selected calling, messaging and notification features; Apple Devices handles cable transfers for files in apps that support file sharing; and iCloud for Windows syncs files and photos. For photos, choose Phone Link for recent-photo access, a cable for a one-time import, or iCloud Photos for an ongoing synced library.
Choose the connection that matches your goal

Use Phone Link for calls, messages and notifications
Phone Link connects an iPhone and Windows PC over Bluetooth for selected phone features. Microsoft describes the feature as syncing a PC with an iPhone, but this should not be read as full iPhone mirroring or complete message-history access. The reviewed support information does not establish feature parity with Android.
- On the PC, open Phone Link and choose iPhone when prompted.
- Follow the pairing prompts on the PC and iPhone, then approve the Bluetooth connection and any requested access.
- Keep Bluetooth enabled on both devices and use Phone Link’s available calling, messaging and notification features.
Microsoft lists Windows 10 with the May 2019 Update or later, or Windows 11, as supported PC requirements. The current requirements page does not state a minimum iOS version. Microsoft’s April 26, 2023 rollout announcement listed iOS 14 or later for the launch-era feature, but that is historical guidance, not a verified current minimum: Microsoft’s 2023 rollout announcement.
Transfer supported files with Apple Devices
For a wired transfer, use Apple Devices for Windows and connect the iPhone to the PC with a cable. Match the cable connectors to the ports on both devices; the suitable cable depends on the iPhone and PC you have.

- Install or open Apple Devices for Windows.
- Connect the iPhone to the PC with a compatible cable.
- Follow Apple’s device-specific instructions in Apple Devices to access and transfer files.
This route is limited to files in iPhone apps that support file sharing. It is not a general way to browse and copy every item stored on the iPhone. See Apple’s instructions for sharing files between an iPhone and a Windows PC.
Choose the right way to get photos onto Windows
Use Phone Link for recent photos
If you want recent photos available on the PC, Microsoft identifies Phone Link as an option. It is intended for recent-photo access, not as a promise that the PC will show the full iPhone photo library. Start in Phone Link and follow its iPhone setup prompts.

Import photos for a one-time copy
For a cable-based import, connect the iPhone and follow Apple’s photo-import directions for Windows. Microsoft also links to Apple’s instructions as an alternative to Phone Link. The cable must fit the ports on both devices. Microsoft’s photo import guidance points to Apple’s import steps and iCloud Photos download guidance.
Use iCloud Photos for an ongoing library
If you want photos to sync rather than make a one-time copy, set up iCloud for Windows and use iCloud Photos. Apple describes automatic transfer between iPhone and Windows, with photos appearing on the PC through iCloud Photos. Follow Apple’s iCloud for Windows setup instructions.

What to check if the connection does not work
- Phone Link does not pair: Check that Bluetooth is available and enabled on both devices, and verify that the PC meets Microsoft’s stated Windows requirement.
- The iPhone is not available for a cable transfer: Confirm the cable connectors match the iPhone and PC, then follow the prompts in Apple Devices.
- A file is missing from Apple Devices: The app on the iPhone must support file sharing for its files to be transferred through this route.
- Photos are not appearing as expected: Pick the workflow that fits the goal—recent photos through Phone Link, a one-time import using Apple’s instructions, or iCloud Photos for ongoing syncing.
