Choose how the agent will control the browser
The agent needs an execution environment that can operate the browser or desktop. The right option depends on your access requirements and whether the target app exposes stable controls.

These approaches offer different control and setup models; the cited documentation does not establish that one is universally faster or more accurate for setting date ranges.
Give the agent an unambiguous task
Specify the start and end dates, the app or page to use, and what the screenshot must show. If the task depends on a timezone or inclusive versus exclusive endpoints, state that too—but only use requirements supplied by the task or established by the target app. General browser automation documentation does not determine an app’s date semantics.

For example, instruct the agent to open the authorized reporting page, set the requested start and end dates using the controls it finds, apply the filter if needed, verify the displayed range and results, and save a full-page PNG. Avoid assuming a date format or that changing an input applies the filter automatically.
Set and verify the date range
- Open the authorized app. Use the browser session and account permitted for the task. If the app requests an approval or access action, follow the applicable authorization process rather than bypassing it.
- Inspect the visible controls. Identify the date fields or calendar, any timezone or range summary, and an Apply, Filter, or equivalent button. With a browser snapshot, accessibility-tree references can help target controls; Playwright’s quick start describes snapshots and refs. With visual computer use, inspect a screenshot between actions.
- Enter the requested dates. Follow the format and interaction the app actually presents. If it uses a calendar, select the dates through that calendar; if it accepts typed input, use its displayed format.
- Apply the filter if required. Some apps update immediately; others wait for an Apply or Filter action. Observe the page after making the selection instead of assuming it took effect.
- Verify both the range and the result. Confirm that the app displays the intended dates and that the visible report or data reflects the requested range. If the summary is ambiguous or the results do not change as expected, pause and inspect the app’s controls or task requirements before capturing.
This verification is an operational safeguard: the cited tools provide browser interaction and observation, not a date-range-specific validation feature.

Capture the right part of the page
Playwright documents screenshots of the visible viewport, a selected element, or the full page, with PNG, JPEG, and WebP formats and filename and scale options. Full-page capture cannot be combined with a target-element capture. See Playwright’s screenshot documentation.
- Viewport: Use it when the selected range and the relevant result fit on screen.
- Element: Use it when only a particular chart, table, or report panel is needed.
- Full page: Use it when the evidence spans the scrollable page. It cannot be combined with a target-element capture.
Choose the format and filename required by the task. Device-pixel scaling changes output resolution relative to CSS pixels; the Playwright CLI screenshot guidance warns that high-resolution output no longer maps directly to CSS-pixel mouse coordinates. If the agent must click after capturing at high resolution, do not treat image coordinates as CSS-pixel coordinates without accounting for that difference.

Protect screenshots and browser-session data
A screenshot can expose account details or page content, and a hosted session may retain browser activity. Limit access to authorized viewers, keep sensitive material out of logs, and review and remove saved session artifacts when finished where the chosen service supports it. OpenAI’s hosted-session guide covers activity review and session deletion.
