Use an AI agent to inspect and capture a GST portal page only after you open it through an authorized browser session. The agent can help navigate and save a screenshot; it should not bypass a CAPTCHA or handle your credentials. With Playwright, the basic workflow is to open the intended page, inspect what is displayed, capture the viewport, a specific element, or the full page, and then review the saved image.
What the AI agent should—and should not—do
Treat this as a documentation task, not a tax-filing automation task. You decide which page to document and authenticate through a permitted process; the agent’s job is to inspect the rendered page and take the capture you request. A ClearTax CT Assistant installation guide depicts a GST login flow with username and password fields and instructs the user to enter a CAPTCHA before pressing Login. That guide appears to date from 2020, so it illustrates an authentication constraint but does not establish the current login flow or portal policy: ClearTax CT Assistant installation guide.
The sources available do not establish whether automated browser access is currently permitted by GSTN, whether an official API exists for this specific task, or how long screenshots may be retained. Check the live portal’s current terms and your organization’s data-handling rules before capturing account pages. Do not give an AI agent your password or ask it to solve or evade a CAPTCHA. Use a human-controlled login or a formally supported access method.

Choose what the screenshot needs to prove
Capture the narrowest scope that still shows the relevant information. A smaller, focused capture is easier to review and may include less unrelated or sensitive data. For an element capture, use a selector that identifies the intended component, not a broad container that sweeps in unrelated account details. If the page has lazy-loaded content, check that the relevant section has appeared before capturing it.
Capture a GST portal page with a Playwright agent

- Open the intended page through an authorized session. Navigate to the precise page you need. Complete any login yourself using the portal’s permitted process; do not ask the agent to bypass a challenge.
- Inspect before interacting. Ask the agent to inspect the page snapshot and confirm the visible page identity and relevant section. Avoid unrelated navigation or opening additional taxpayer records.
- Choose the capture scope and format. Use viewport, an element, or full page as appropriate. Specify a descriptive filename and an image format such as PNG, JPEG, or WebP.
- Save and review the image. Check that text is legible, the relevant content is present, and no unintended sensitive details have been included.
- Record context alongside the file. Note the capture date and time, page name or URL, browser and version, and operating environment. Keep the original capture if it will serve as a record; label any redacted or annotated copy as a derivative.
Playwright’s screenshot options also include css and device scale settings. Choose deliberately if the output size or pixel density matters; do not assume captures made with different settings are directly comparable. See the screenshot documentation for the supported options.

Screenshot rendering can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and whether the browser runs headlessly. - For a one-time record, prioritize legibility and include a note identifying the page and capture time.
- For recurring records, keep the browser and host environment, capture scope, and relevant settings consistent; record them with each capture.
- Minimize personal or taxpayer information in the image. If policy requires redaction, preserve the untouched original where required and clearly label the altered copy.
- Do not treat an image as certified or legally sufficient evidence merely because it was created by browser automation; follow the applicable organizational process for records.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
The browser is still showing a login or CAPTCHA page
The session may not be authenticated, or the portal may require an interactive verification step. Complete authentication yourself through the permitted flow, then have the agent inspect the resulting page. Do not attempt to evade the CAPTCHA or pass credentials to the agent.
The screenshot is blank or shows the wrong page
Inspect the page snapshot and visible page identity before capture. Confirm navigation completed and the intended content rendered; then capture again. Do not assume that a successful screenshot command means the correct page was reached.

A viewport capture contains only the visible browser area. Use full-page capture if the entire scrollable page is needed, or capture the specific element containing the relevant content.
The image is hard to read or includes too much information
Choose a tighter scope, such as the relevant element, when it preserves enough context. Review image dimensions and scaling settings, and inspect the saved file before using it. If privacy requires a redaction, make and label a separate derivative rather than silently altering the original.

Rendering may differ across operating systems, browser versions, settings, hardware, power sources, and headless mode. Record the environment and hold it steady for comparisons, as described in Playwright’s visual comparison guidance.
