Safest approach: use a demo or synthetic banking page whenever possible. If a real account session is necessary, keep the account holder in control, never give credentials or OTPs to the agent, capture only the specific area needed, mask known sensitive fields, and inspect the saved image before sharing it. A screenshot mask reduces what appears in the image; it does not prove the agent or browser never accessed the underlying data.
Why a real bank page needs extra care
Indian Bank identifies user IDs, banking passwords, card numbers and PINs, account numbers, and online financial information as highly confidential, and says not to part with them in its banking security guidance (last modified July 5, 2026). That advice is not an AI-agent-specific procedure, but it supports a conservative rule: do not put banking credentials, card data, PINs, or one-time passwords into an agent prompt, chat, or automation script.
Prefer a mock-up, demo page, or synthetic account view if the task is to document a layout, test an interaction, or create an example. Use a real session only when the work genuinely requires it. This is a risk-reduction recommendation, not a bank-approved AI-agent protocol.

Playwright documents screenshots of selected elements and screenshot-time masks for selected locators. Its documentation describes the screenshot behavior, not the complete security model of an AI agent or the handling practices of external services. Use Playwright with a real account only under the account holder’s control
The following Python example uses Playwright to open a page after a person has established the session, capture one selected element, mask known sensitive elements at screenshot time, and save the image locally. It does not automate sign-in or handle credentials. Replace the example selectors with selectors that match the page you are documenting. Use a synthetic page first wherever possible.

python capture_bank_panel.pyNavigate and authenticate yourself in the visible browser. When the script prompts you, continue only after the page is ready. The example uses black masks; change the color only if a different opaque overlay better fits the intended document.
- Review the output locally: open the PNG and check that the relevant information remains legible while names, account identifiers, balances, transaction details, and any other unnecessary personal information are covered. Those fields are a review checklist, not a claim that every bank page displays all of them.
Playwright’s mask overlays the bounding boxes of the selected locators in the screenshot. If a selector does not match, a field is outside the captured element, or the page changes layout, the intended coverage may fail. Do not treat the mask as a guarantee that the agent did not see the underlying text, or that the data was not available through the browser, logs, an AI provider, or another capture path. The API supports screenshot data as a buffer as well as saving it to a file; either output should be treated as sensitive until checked.

Keep the session and screenshot under control
- Use HTTPS and verify the page’s domain before interacting with a banking session.
- Do not save banking passwords in the browser. Indian Bank’s safe-banking guidance recommends HTTPS, avoiding browser password saving, and logging out and closing the browser after banking work.
- Keep the screenshot local and out of shared folders, prompts, tickets, or third-party processing until it has been reviewed and appropriately redacted.
- Log out and close the browser when finished. RBI’s Be Aware internet-safety guidance also advises avoiding public terminals for financial transactions.
- Do not assume a bank’s privacy policy or regulator guidance specifically approves an AI screenshot workflow. Indian Bank’s privacy policy discusses safeguards and disclosure conditions, while RBI’s card-issuer material concerns its stated scope; neither establishes the practices of an AI agent or every third-party service.

Troubleshooting
The selected panel times out or cannot be found
Confirm that the page has finished rendering and that PANEL_SELECTOR matches an element on the current page. Bank pages may use different markup after sign-in. Prefer a stable selector and verify it in the browser before capturing; do not fall back automatically to a full-page screenshot if that would include more account data.
A sensitive field appears in the screenshot
Stop and do not share the file. Check whether the selector matches the actual rendered field and whether that field lies inside the chosen panel. Update the selector or capture scope, regenerate the image, and inspect it again. If the original file contains exposed information, treat it as sensitive even after generating a corrected image.

The masked image still reveals information
Verify that the overlay covers the entire visible value, including wrapped text or responsive layouts. A mask is only as reliable as the locator and rendered geometry used for that screenshot. Recheck the image at full size; if you cannot confidently cover the value, do not use that capture.
The page asks for an OTP or blocks automation
Do not send the OTP to the agent or place it in a script. Complete required account-holder steps directly in the browser, or abandon the real-session capture and use a demo page. Do not try to bypass a bank’s security checks.

The browser or capture fails
Confirm Playwright and its Chromium browser are installed, the page is reachable, and the panel appears after any human-controlled sign-in. If a bank’s security controls prevent the workflow, stop rather than weakening them. The cited documentation does not establish a universal bank-page automation procedure.
