Use AI music tools for defined jobs—such as generating an instrumental placeholder, separating stems, creating accompaniment from a part you supplied, or reshaping a vocal—then audition and shape the result in the context of the production. The tool can provide material or options; it does not replace the producer’s choices about what belongs in the arrangement, how it should be edited, or whether it is ready to release.

Start with a production task, not a tool

Before opening a generator or processing a file, decide what the project needs. A temporary cue for a video edit has different requirements from a new musical idea based on a guitar part, or a separated vocal for remixing. Matching the tool to the task helps you judge the output by its usefulness in the project rather than by whether it sounds finished on its own.

  • Idea generation: Explore possible directions when you have a musical starting point but need options to develop.
  • Instrumental placeholder bed: Fill a rough cut or other working edit with music that helps you assess timing and mood.
  • Stem separation: Isolate parts from a recording so you can work with them individually.
  • Accompaniment generation: Use a supplied stem as a basis for exploring additional musical material.
  • Vocal transformation: Reshape a vocal with a voice model, provided you have permission to process the source and use the result.

These are different jobs, not interchangeable promises. For example, Adobe describes Generate Music in Premiere as a tool for instrumental background music for video, while Moises and Fender describe stem, accompaniment, and vocal functions in Fender Studio Pro.

Choose a tool that fits the job and the session

Integration affects how easily you can audition and revise material. A result delivered into a video timeline can be useful for picture editing; an operation inside a DAW can keep stem work and vocal changes close to the session. Neither workflow establishes that one service produces better-sounding results: the cited product descriptions are not controlled, side-by-side audio-quality tests.

Example Documented task fit Where the work happens and what is described
Adobe Generate Music in Premiere (beta) Instrumental background music for video, including a rough-cut placeholder. Adobe describes an editable 48 kHz timeline clip that can be trimmed, moved, and given effects. Its FAQ, last updated August 25, 2026, says prompts or tempo can be changed to create further variations and that four variations can be compared against picture. The feature requires an internet connection, uses generative credits, and saves generated assets next to the project by default.
Moises integration in Fender Studio Pro 8.1 Stem isolation, generating musical ideas from a user’s stem, and reshaping vocals. Moises announced the integration on June 9, 2026, describing these operations inside Fender Studio Pro. The announcement says existing Moises subscribers can use their plans in the DAW and that Fender Studio Pro users can try full Moises Pro features for 14 days; those access and trial details can change.

These examples illustrate different workflow roles, not an overall ranking. The Moises/Fender announcement also describes voice models built with real artists who are paid royalties for their use; check the applicable feature and terms before using a model in a specific release.

Check inputs, permissions, and terms before processing

Confirm that you own or have permission to upload and process every recording, sample, or vocal you provide. Then check the terms for the exact feature, plan, and intended use. “Commercial use” is not a universal property of AI-generated audio: service policies can distinguish free and paid plans, beta features, generated outputs, and included sample material.

Provider or material What its cited terms say Practical boundary
Adobe Generate Music Adobe says its model was trained on licensed and public-domain content and that Generate Music tracks may be used commercially and monetized across major platforms under its stated commercially safe and royalty-free terms. The feature is identified as beta. This is Adobe’s representation about this feature, not a general guarantee for AI music or other services. Recheck its current beta status, credits, functionality, and terms.
ElevenLabs Its general publishing guidance says free-plan content lacks a commercial license; paid plans include a commercial license subject to conditions and service-specific terms. It says Beta Services content cannot be used commercially or in a production environment. Do not treat general publishing guidance as confirmation of the current terms for a particular Eleven Music plan or feature. Verify those terms before use.
Splice Create Splice says paid Sounds+, Creator, or Creator+ subscribers receive a non-exclusive, irrevocable license to use sounds incorporated into a Create Stack in perpetuity under its terms. Free-user Stacks are described as promotional and non-commercial. The stated license concerns sounds incorporated into a Create Stack; check the service terms for the particular material and use.
Apple Logic Pro/MainStage Sample Content Apple says sample content may be used royalty-free to create original soundtracks and that those soundtracks can be broadcast or distributed. Individual sample assets cannot be distributed standalone or repackaged as samples, music beds, sound effects, libraries, or similar assets.

A provider’s permission to use material commercially and the question of whether a work qualifies for copyright protection are separate issues.

Generate or process options, then audition them in context

For a video placeholder

Adobe’s Premiere beta is specifically described for instrumental video background music. Its documented workflow lets an editor revise prompts or tempo to make more variations and compare four variations against picture. The clip is described as editable on the timeline, so it can be moved, trimmed, or given effects rather than treated as a finished, untouchable file. Its 48 kHz specification, internet requirement, project-adjacent asset storage, and credit use are details of this Premiere feature, not standard properties of AI music tools.

For stem, accompaniment, or vocal work

The June 9, 2026 Moises announcement describes stem isolation, generating ideas from one of a user’s stems, and vocal reshaping within Fender Studio Pro 8.1. Keeping these operations in the DAW can make it easier to compare a processed part with the rest of the session. The announcement does not establish that generated accompaniment or transformed vocals need no further editing, or that they suit every project.

Judge the result against the project

Audition each candidate against the arrangement, picture, and role it is meant to serve. Ask whether it works as a temporary reference, a layer worth editing, or material you are considering for the final production. Listen for how it fits the timing and the existing parts, and compare alternatives before committing. The selection is a creative decision: a technically usable output is not automatically the right musical choice.

Shape the material into a production

Bring the useful result into the session’s normal decision-making process. Select the passages or parts that serve the arrangement, trim and place them, and make the performance, editing, and production choices needed to fit the project. A generator can offer variations or a processing tool can expose useful parts, but the producer still decides what to keep and how those elements work together.

For a placeholder, the goal may be to support editing and communicate timing or mood; it need not be treated as final music. For a stem or transformed vocal, consider how the part sits with the other tracks and whether it needs further arrangement or editing. Keep the distinction clear between a working asset and material cleared and prepared for release.

Document the work and review it before release

Keep a record alongside the session of the material and decisions that shaped the final production. This is practical guidance, not a uniform recordkeeping requirement stated by the vendors.

  • Save prompts, settings, and relevant variation or processing choices.
  • Keep source files and a record of the permissions or licenses that cover them.
  • Record the service, feature, plan, and terms that applied when the asset was made, including any relevant beta limitation.
  • Preserve the edits, arrangement choices, performances, and other human contributions that shaped the released work.

Before distribution, check the provider’s current terms for the exact feature and plan, and review the requirements that apply to your intended release or registration. Copyright guidance and rules vary by jurisdiction; the U.S. Copyright Office guidance described below is specific to U.S. copyright.

What U.S. copyright guidance says about AI-assisted music

In its January 29, 2025 summary of Part 2 of its artificial intelligence report, the U.S. Copyright Office says generative AI output may be protected only where a human author has determined sufficient expressive elements. It identifies human-authored work perceptible in the output and human creative arrangement or modification as possible cases, while saying prompts alone are insufficient. The Office also says that using AI to assist creation, or including AI-generated material in a larger human-generated work, does not itself bar copyrightability.

This is U.S. Copyright Office guidance, not a universal legal rule or an individualized conclusion about a particular track. Vendor permission to use an output commercially does not by itself answer whether that work qualifies for copyright protection.
