You can use a Wii Remote with a PC in two different ways: connect a real remote to Dolphin to play Wii games, or use Windows software such as Touchmote to map the remote to keyboard, mouse, multitouch, or Xbox 360 controller inputs. For Dolphin’s documented local-play setup, open Options → Controller Settings, select Real Wii Remote for a slot, choose Refresh, then press 1 + 2 on a standard remote or its Sync button on a Wii Remote Plus marked -TR. Don’t pair it first through Windows’ Bluetooth settings.
Choose how you want to use the Wii Remote

These routes are not interchangeable: mapping a PC controller as an emulated Wii Remote in Dolphin does not make a physical Wii Remote work in every Windows game. Dolphin’s setup is the most direct route for playing Wii games; Touchmote is the documented option here for mapping the real remote to general Windows inputs.
Connect a real Wii Remote to Dolphin
- Make sure the PC has Bluetooth. A desktop computer may need a USB or PCIe Bluetooth adapter. Compatibility depends on the adapter, driver, operating system, and remote revision; a generic dongle is not guaranteed to work. Dolphin’s controller guide provides its setup requirements.
- Open Dolphin’s controller settings. Select Options → Controller Settings.
- Set a Wii Remote slot to Real Wii Remote. Confirm the slot is not already assigned to another remote.
- Select Refresh and connect the remote. Press 1 + 2 together on a standard Wii Remote. For a Wii Remote Plus marked -TR, press the remote’s Sync button instead.
- Enable Continuous Scanning if needed. This keeps Dolphin looking for a remote while a game is running or the controller configuration window is open.
Do not connect through the computer’s native Bluetooth pairing screen first. Dolphin warns that the operating system can interfere with its connection to the remote: Configuring controllers.
If the connection does not work
- Check that the slot is set to Real Wii Remote, not an emulated remote, and is not claimed by another remote.
- Turn off nearby Wii or Wii U consoles while pairing.
- Try the correct connection button for the remote revision: 1 + 2 for standard models or Sync for -TR models.
- If the PC’s Bluetooth stack cannot connect, Touchmote identifies the Mayflash DolphinBar as an option for some newer remotes that do not work with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack. It is optional, not a universal Dolphin requirement; check that the current DolphinBar model and software support your setup. Touchmote’s project page lists its prerequisites and compatibility notes.
Dolphin supports up to four real Wii Remotes at once, including attached peripherals. After a Wii game has been idle for several minutes, the game may treat a remote as disconnected even if Dolphin still sees it. Press a remote button or select Tools → Connect Wii Remotes to reconnect it. Turn the remote off manually when finished to save battery. Dolphin documents these behaviors in its controller guide.

Use a PC controller or keyboard instead
If you want to play a Wii game in Dolphin without a physical Wii Remote, configure an Emulated Wii Remote and map a connected PC controller or keyboard to its buttons and axes. Dolphin’s configuration includes extensions such as a Nunchuk or Guitar and MotionPlus settings. This can be simpler than pairing a real remote, but the controls are mapped inputs rather than the original hardware.
Map a physical Wii Remote to Windows
Touchmote’s project page describes a Windows application that can map Wii Remote inputs to keyboard, mouse, multitouch, or Xbox 360 controller inputs, with layouts configurable for applications. The page lists Windows 7 or later, a Wii Remote, a sensor bar, and a supported Bluetooth dongle or Mayflash DolphinBar among its prerequisites. It offers version 1.0 beta 15 downloads for 32-bit and 64-bit systems and notes that some newer remotes do not work with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack. Because the listed software version and compatibility information are dated, verify that Touchmote works with your Windows version and remote before relying on it. Touchmote

Which accessories do you need?
- Bluetooth adapter: Needed only if the PC lacks a usable Bluetooth interface. Dolphin says many desktop PCs need a USB or PCIe adapter; the sources do not establish compatibility for every chipset or driver. Dolphin controller guide
- Sensor bar: Needed for infrared pointer control, but not for ordinary button-only use. Touchmote lists a USB-powered or wireless sensor bar as a prerequisite for its pointer workflow. Touchmote
- Mayflash DolphinBar: Optional hardware named by Touchmote as a recommended option and a possible solution for some newer remotes that do not work with Microsoft’s Bluetooth Stack. It is not required for Dolphin’s ordinary real-remote setup when compatible Bluetooth is available. Check current device and software compatibility before buying or relying on one. Touchmote
Know your Wii Remote revision
WiiBrew distinguishes the older RVL-CNT-01 from the newer RVL-CNT-01-TR Wii Remote Plus. The older model may be usable without Bluetooth pairing, but that behavior is not supported on the -TR revision. Wii Remotes use legacy Bluetooth pairing and do not support Secure Simple Pairing, which is why the connection method can vary by revision. Dolphin’s Real Wii Remote option itself is not supported for netplay. To use a physical remote in a netplay session, connect it through Connect Wii Remotes for Emulated Controllers. Dolphin describes Wii Remote netplay as experimental and especially prone to desynchronization; when a game supports a GameCube controller, Dolphin recommends using one if possible.
