Samsung refrigerator control panels vary by model, so check your refrigerator’s model code and use its matching manual before trying a button combination. The steps below explain common panel types and functions using Samsung US support guidance; a control or sequence shown here may not apply to your regional variant.
Find your model before changing settings
Button labels, panel layouts, and lock behavior differ across Samsung refrigerators. Locate the model code on your appliance, then open the matching manual from Samsung’s refrigerator support page. Treat the examples in this guide as model-dependent, not universal instructions.
How to set the temperature
The control depends on the interface. After selecting a temperature, allow time for the compartment to reach it; Samsung cautions that the change is not immediate.

| Dedicated Fridge and Freezer buttons | Press the button for the compartment repeatedly to cycle through the available settings. |
| Arrow-button interface | Navigate to Fridge, Freezer, or FlexZone, select the compartment, adjust the setting, and confirm. |
| Family Hub | Temperature changes may be made through SmartThings. Older models may use Fridge Manager. |
Some panels also offer Power Cool or Power Freeze to speed cooling in the corresponding compartment. Availability and activation vary by model, so consult the matching manual for its control and use.

Understand the different locks
A lock indicator is a useful first check if the panel or dispenser seems not to respond. Samsung describes several distinct lock functions; do not assume one button or sequence applies to all of them.
Automatic Control Lock
On the models covered by Samsung’s instruction, certain interior or top-of-door panels lock after one minute of inactivity. Holding Door Alarm until a chime—about three seconds—usually releases that lock. Confirm the procedure in your manual if the control is absent or does not work.
Dispenser Lock
On select models, this disables water and ice dispensing while leaving other panel functions available. On Family Hub, Samsung’s path for managing it is Apps > Fridge Manager > Fridge Settings.

Child Lock or Control Lock
Some external panels can lock both the controls and the dispenser. For models covered by Samsung’s instruction, hold Ice Maker Off until a chime, about three seconds. If your model uses a different label or the sequence fails, use its manual rather than trying other button combinations.

- Check for a lock indicator. Identify whether it refers to a panel lock or dispenser lock, then use the model-specific release procedure.
- Power-cycle a non-Family Hub refrigerator. Samsung’s panel troubleshooting guidance says to unplug the unit or switch off its circuit breaker for 60 seconds, restore power, and allow the refrigerator to boot.
- For Family Hub, check the display’s internal switch. Follow the instructions for your model rather than applying the non-Family Hub power-cycle steps to the display.
- Request service if the problem persists. Samsung recommends service when the panel remains unresponsive after the applicable checks.

Cooling Off is not a normal power-off
Samsung’s instructions for the RFG297 say Cooling Off stops cooling in both compartments but leaves electrical power on. For that model only, hold Energy Saver and Freezer/Power Freeze together for three seconds to activate or cancel the mode. Verify your model’s manual before using any similar combination; this is not a general Samsung reset or shutoff procedure. See the RFG297 instructions.

Resetting is different from power-cycling the panel
Samsung says it rarely recommends resetting a refrigerator unless troubleshooting instructions for the situation call for it. Its general reset page describes unplugging the refrigerator or switching off the breaker, waiting about five minutes, then restoring power. That is distinct from the 60-second power cycle in the panel troubleshooting steps above; follow the procedure that matches your issue and model, not both by default. See Samsung’s reset guidance.
Use the matching manual for other panel controls
Functions such as Filter Reset or Water/Filter Reset appear on some models, but their labels and operation are not universal. Find the manual through Samsung’s refrigerator support page and check that any replacement filter is compatible with your exact model.
