Unfold the phone, open the first app, then use your model’s split-screen or multi-window controls to put a second app beside or above it. On supported Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Google Pixel Fold devices, you can also save frequently used two-app layouts as app pairs; the exact controls differ by brand and software version.
Choose two apps that work better side by side
The inner display gives you room to keep related tasks visible at once. Consider a browser beside email or a calendar, or notes beside a reference page—useful when you need to cross-check information or move between tasks without repeatedly switching apps. These are practical examples, not a guarantee that a particular pairing will improve productivity.
Start with two apps. Once you have a split view open, adjust the divider if your phone offers one, giving more space to the app that needs it.
Open split screen on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold
Samsung calls its multitasking feature Multi window. It supports split-screen and pop-up views. Samsung’s description is that Multi window lets you “open multiple apps in split screen or pop-up view.” Read more in Samsung’s guide to Flex mode and viewing apps on Galaxy foldable phones.

- Unfold your Galaxy Z Fold and open the first app.
- Use the phone’s Multi window controls to start a split-screen layout. On supported Z Fold devices, Samsung documents dragging an app from the Taskbar into Multi window.
- Select or drag the second app into the other part of the screen.
- Adjust the divider if available to change how much space each app gets.
Samsung’s interface and available options can vary by model. If the Taskbar or Multi window control is not where expected, check the instructions for your specific phone in Samsung’s Multi window and App pairs support guide.
Use Split Screen on a Google Pixel Fold
Google’s Pixel Fold instructions use the name Split Screen. Open the first app, follow Google’s on-device Split Screen steps, then choose the second app. Google also describes using the Taskbar to select apps and save an app pair. After opening the pair, use the split-screen layout to keep both apps visible. Google says Pixel Fold apps can continue to be used when the phone is folded; do not assume the same behavior on another foldable without checking its support instructions.
Save a frequently used app pair
If you often use the same two apps together, saving their layout avoids setting it up from scratch each time.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold
Samsung documents creating an App pair from the split-screen divider and saving it for later access. The exact options can depend on the device’s interface. Follow Samsung’s App pairs instructions for your model.
Google Pixel Fold
Google documents moving an app pair to the Home screen and adding it to the Taskbar. Follow the steps in Google’s Pixel Fold Split Screen guide; use whichever saved shortcut suits the way you reopen the pair.

Use a third app only where your phone supports it
Google documents a Pixel Fold option for placing an app bubble over a split-screen view, making three apps available together. This is a Pixel Fold-specific documented workflow, not a universal feature or a claim about the maximum number of apps on other foldables. There is no single gesture sequence established here for every foldable manufacturer, model, or software version. Look for the terms your phone uses—such as Multi window, Split Screen, App pairs, or Taskbar—and consult the current support guide for your exact model. Do not assume that a menu location, app-pair feature, third-app workflow, or behavior when folding carries over from Samsung or Pixel to another device.
