Check the displayed requirements, resource cost, and research timer. Confirm the upgrade in the game if you want to proceed.
The available choices depend on account progression. Supercell’s official support identifies the Laboratory as the place where research takes place through its Magic Items information, but its published material does not provide a complete current tap-by-tap walkthrough or a live troop-by-troop cost and timer table. Follow the controls and values shown in your own game.

How to make a troop upgrade faster
Three Magic Items affect research in different ways. Supercell’s support page describes these effects:
| Item | Effect |
|---|---|
| Research Potion | Accelerates Laboratory research by 24x for one hour. |
| Book of Fighting | Instantly completes a troop upgrade timer. |
| Hammer of Fighting | Instantly upgrades a troop to its next level. |
The potion speeds up research, while the book finishes an upgrade already in progress and the hammer advances a troop by one level. To view, sell, or use Magic Items, Supercell says to tap the Town Hall or Builder Hall and select “Magic Items.” Check the item description and the game’s confirmation screen before using one.

How to check whether a Super Troop is available
A troop may need to reach a required level before you can use its Super Troop version. In release notes dated February 23, 2026, Supercell said: “For troops that are not high enough level, the Super Sauna will now display what upgrade level is required to use a given super troop.” If the option is unavailable, check the Super Sauna for the required level.
Builder Base troop upgrades use a different Laboratory
Builder Base troops are upgraded in the Star Laboratory, not the Home Village Laboratory. Supercell’s Builder Base support information also notes that units can have predetermined minimum levels when they are unlocked. Those starting levels are part of Builder Base progression and should not be confused with Home Village troop research.

Why older troop upgrade cost and time tables may be wrong
Upgrade values change. On December 6, 2023, Supercell announced reductions to upgrade costs and times for many Town Hall levels. That change is a reminder that an older guide may no longer match the game. For a particular troop, rely on the current cost and timer displayed in your Laboratory rather than treating a historical table as guaranteed current.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Clan Capital upgrades are a separate system
Clan Capital development is a shared clan activity: members contribute to building and upgrading the Capital. It is not an individual troop upgrade started in a Home Village Laboratory. Supercell described this shared contribution system in its May 1, 2022 Clan Capital announcement.
