Build around six core fighters, invest their levels first, and hold back on leveling bench fighters: a third-party TapForce guide says several modes set opponents’ levels using the sixth-highest fighter, so an extra fighter entering that group can make those modes harder without improving your main team. Use promotion to raise the core fighters’ level caps, and direct each currency to its particular job rather than spending everything as soon as it arrives.
Why your six highest-level fighters matter
Combat Codex’s Progression & First Month guide says Hard Mode, Sewers, and Club Smash use auto-leveling based on the level of your sixth-highest fighter. On that account, leveling a seventh fighter into the top six can raise opponents’ levels in those modes even if that fighter is not part of your main team.
Use six fighters as your core leveling group and concentrate gold and elixir there. Combat Codex also recommends taking other fighters to level 80 when you need their weapons in auto-level modes, while avoiding extra levels that would move them into the top six. Treat this as third-party strategy guidance, not an official developer rule; check current in-game behavior if a mode or balance update changes the system.
The guide says resetting a fighter can refund gold and elixir, but does not undo the auto-level consequence if that fighter previously entered the top six. That makes prevention safer than relying on a reset to reverse a leveling decision.

What each currency does
Combat Codex’s Currency Guide distinguishes the main progression currencies by use. The guide describes elixir as scarce, so avoid spreading it across fighters you are not actively building.
| Currency | Guide-listed use | Practical allocation |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | Fighter levels, masteries, and dragons. | Combat Codex recommends prioritizing fighter levels, then mastery, then dragons. |
| Elixir | Fighter leveling. | Keep it focused on the core six, in line with the guide’s scarcity warning. |
| Platinum | Fighter levels after level 240 and raising mastery’s maximum after mastery level 60. | Save it for those later progression uses; verify the thresholds in the current game. |
These are uses and priorities reported by Combat Codex, not a guarantee that the game’s current costs or thresholds are unchanged. Before spending on a milestone, check the in-game screen for the fighter or mastery you are upgrading.

Promote fighters to raise their level caps
Promotion consumes duplicate fighter copies to increase a fighter’s rank and level cap. Combat Codex’s Promotion Costs guide identifies two progression milestones: Master rank at level 180, and Grandmaster rank at level 240. The guide associates Grandmaster at 240 with unlocking a second dragon slot and charms.
Reserve copies for fighters you intend to build, rather than promoting bench characters simply because the materials are available. The Promotion Costs guide cautions against raising two separate copies of the same elite fighter to Ultra rank or higher; compare the required copies and intended team before committing.

Combat Codex’s progression guide says leveling before fusion is unnecessary because leveling resources are returned at 100%. That refund claim is specific to the guide; inspect the current in-game fusion preview before fusing, especially if the interface shows different costs or returns.
A sensible order for spending
- Choose your core six. Use the fighters you expect to rely on as your main group, and make them the recipients of routine level investment.
- Prioritize levels with gold and elixir. Combat Codex recommends leveling fighters ahead of mastery and dragons for gold, while keeping elixir centered on the six.
- Keep useful bench fighters below the top-six threshold. Level them only as needed, including to level 80 for weapon access in auto-level modes according to the guide.
- Promote with a plan. Save duplicate copies for intended core fighters and account for the 180 and 240 milestones before using copies elsewhere.
- Use platinum for its later roles. The Currency Guide ties it to fighter levels after 240 and mastery-cap increases after mastery level 60; verify those thresholds in game.
Be selective with gems, shops, and events
Combat Codex’s Complete Currency Guide lists possible gem and store priorities including market pizza, tapes, gold, five-orb bundles, elite dragon shards, and building materials. It also describes some purchases as situational. These are recommendations, not universal best buys: shop inventories, offers, and your account’s immediate bottlenecks can differ. Check the current offer, its cost, and whether the item advances one of your six core fighters before spending.

- Will this level investment benefit a core-six fighter, or could it move a bench fighter into the top six?
- Is the currency needed for a later role, especially platinum for post-240 fighter levels or mastery-cap increases?
- Are you close to Master at level 180 or Grandmaster at level 240, where the guide identifies progression benefits?
- Does the current shop or event actually offer value for your account, at a cost you are willing to spend?
- Does the in-game fusion or upgrade preview confirm the expected resource cost and return?
The detailed mechanics and priorities above come from Combat Codex, a third-party TapForce guide publisher. Apple’s Tap Force: Retro RPG App Store listing establishes the app context, but not these progression mechanics. Because currencies, balance, and event details can change, the in-game screens are the final check before spending.
