On your iPhone, go to Settings → your name → Payment & Shipping. Authenticate if prompted, then tap an existing method to edit its billing details or tap Add Payment Method to add another one. These settings cover Apple Account purchases and services—not cards used with Apple Pay.
Update or add a payment method

Open Settings on your iPhone and tap your name at the top.

Tap Payment & Shipping. Sign in or authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID if asked. Apple’s iPhone guide identifies this as the place to manage account payment information.

To change a saved method, tap it, tap Edit, update the billing information, then tap Done. To add a method, tap Add Payment Method, enter its details, and tap Done. Apple’s payment-method instructions cover these options.

Apple Account payment information is used for media purchases and services. Available payment methods vary by country or region; Apple does not publish one universal list that applies everywhere.
If the existing method will not update
Add the replacement method first, then return to the list, tap Edit, and remove the old one. If you want to keep using the prior method, Apple says you can add it again with corrected details.

Troubleshoot a declined payment or purchase block
Payment method declined
Add another payment method, remove the old one, and try the purchase again. If the payment is still declined, contact the financial institution that issued the card or method. Apple says it does not have information about the issuer’s reason for declining a payment. Apple’s declined-payment guidance explains the recommended steps.

“Billing problem with previous purchase” or “verification required”
These alerts can indicate an unpaid previous purchase, rather than a problem that will be fixed by re-entering card details alone. Apple recommends resolving the outstanding purchase by retrying with a valid payment method or changing the method on the account. In supported regions, Apple Account credit redeemed from an Apple Gift Card or App Store Card can also be applied to an unpaid order; gift cards are not available in every country or region. Check Family Sharing billing responsibility
When Purchase Sharing is enabled, the family organizer’s payment method is generally charged for family purchases unless another adult family member has a valid payment method. The organizer can add or update the payment method. If you are not the organizer and your purchase is blocked, ask the organizer to check the family billing method. Apple’s Family Sharing guidance describes who is charged.

Changing your Apple Account country or region is not the same as editing a card’s billing address. Apple’s country or region change guidance lists possible prerequisites, including spending remaining account balance, waiting for pending activity or refunds, and addressing Family Sharing. Payment options vary by region.

Likewise, changing a method under Payment & Shipping does not update the cards you tap to pay with Apple Pay. Apple provides separate instructions for changing or removing Apple Pay cards.
