Check your GTA V patch
Compare your installed game patch with the supported patch list on the official Script Hook V page before downloading. The release listed during the research check supported these builds:

How to update Script Hook V
- Close GTA V. Do not change the files while the game is running.
- Check the supported patch list. Open the official Script Hook V page and compare its listed supported patches with your installed GTA V patch.
- Download the official package. Avoid third-party DLL mirrors.
- Open the package’s bin folder. Follow the included README for the files and installation instructions. The core runtime is ScriptHookV.dll; the distribution also provides dinput8.dll as an ASI Loader option and an optional sample Native Trainer.
- Copy ScriptHookV.dll to the GTA V main folder. This is the folder containing GTA5.exe. Follow the README for any other package files you choose to install.
- Test in Story Mode. The official page says Script Hook V does not work in GTA Online.

Finding the GTA V main folder
Install the runtime in the game directory containing GTA5.exe, not in a subfolder such as scripts or mods. If you are unsure which directory is active, use your game launcher’s option to open or browse the installed game files, then confirm that the folder contains GTA5.exe.
Fixing “Unknown game version”
This message indicates that the installed Script Hook V does not recognize your game executable. Check that the installed GTA V patch appears on the official developer page and that you placed the runtime in the folder containing GTA5.exe. If your patch is not listed, wait for a compatible official release; the available evidence does not establish that an unlisted patch is supported.

Why Script Hook V may stop working after a GTA V update
A game update can change the executable build, so Script Hook V may need a compatible runtime release. Check the official supported-patch list and update the runtime when a matching release is available. Replacing unrelated files or using DLLs from unofficial mirrors is not supported by the cited instructions.
Script Hook V and GTA Online
Do not use Script Hook V in GTA Online. The official developer page says it does not work in multiplayer and closes GTA V when the player enters the online component. Use it for Story Mode only.
