To update Snipping Tool in Windows 11, open Microsoft Store, select Library > Get updates, and install any update offered for the app. If Snipping Tool still has a problem, check Windows Update, then try the app’s Repair or Reset options if they are available.
Update Snipping Tool from the Microsoft Store
- Open Microsoft Store from Start.
- Select Library.
- Select Get updates and let the Store check for available updates.
- If Snipping Tool appears, allow its update to install.
Microsoft also describes the manual update check as Check for Updates. Store wording can vary. Microsoft says app updates are generally automatic, but you can check manually when you need to see whether an update is available.
Check for Windows updates
Updating a Store app and updating Windows are separate steps. If Snipping Tool still has a problem, check for Windows updates too:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart the PC if prompted.
Repair or reset Snipping Tool
If the app still misbehaves, try Windows’ built-in recovery options. Repair and Reset are available only for some apps, so the options may not appear for Snipping Tool on every device.

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Snipping Tool and select the More menu beside it.
- Select Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair and check whether the problem is resolved.
- If Repair is unavailable or does not help, try Reset, if available.
Reinstall Snipping Tool
If Snipping Tool still has a problem, reinstall it through Microsoft Store:
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Open Library and find Snipping Tool.
- Select Install if that option is offered.
Open Snipping Tool
Snipping Tool is a Windows app for capturing screenshots. You can launch it from Start, or press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the screenshot overlay.
