The right fix depends on where the incorrect information appears. Edit a Google Business Profile you manage; request access if someone else owns it; correct your own website before asking Google to recrawl it; and use Google’s outdated-content process when a third-party page has already changed or disappeared but Search still shows the old version.
First identify where the incorrect information appears
A Business Profile and an ordinary web result are different sources. Business Profile details are managed through profile controls in Google Search or Maps. An organic result comes from a webpage, so the page may need to be corrected before Google can show the updated version.

Correct a Business Profile you manage
- Sign in to the Google Account linked to the Business Profile.
- Find the business in Google Search or Maps and select Edit profile.
- Update the relevant field—such as address, service area, hours, phone, website, category, or description—and save.
Use the business’s real-world name and accurate contact and location details, not promotional wording. Google reviews edits before updating them live. Available fields and features can vary by business type, region, device, or operating system. If the business moved after verification, Google says it may need verification again. See Google’s profile-editing guidance.
If the account is locked or the profile is unverified, resolve access or verification first. Submitting a public edit is not the same as managing the profile.

Request access if someone else owns the profile
Use Google’s request-access flow for the existing profile rather than creating a duplicate. Google notifies the current owner, who has three days to respond. If approved, you receive management access. If denied, you can still suggest an edit and may be able to appeal. If the owner does not respond, Google may offer a way to claim and verify the listing, but that option is not guaranteed. Service-area businesses without a shop or office are directed to a different Google support route. Details are in Google’s ownership guidance.
Suggest a correction when you cannot manage the place
Search for the place in Google Search and choose Suggest an edit. Depending on the interface, you may be able to submit a correction to the name, category, location, hours, phone number, or website. Some attributes let you report that a detail is incorrect even when you do not know the correct value. Google reviews edits, which may take time to appear, and this feature is not available in every region.

Submit the official business name, primary phone number, and official website. Google recommends adding a photo to help verify an edit, but a photo submitted this way is public under the submitter’s name. Read Google’s instructions for suggesting a Maps edit before adding one.
Review profile changes Google made
Google may update profile details using user reports, licensed content, and other information sources. In the profile editor, blue text indicates information changed by Google, and a notification may appear at the top of the page. For certain suggested edits, Google sends an email or in-product notice and gives the owner four days to accept or reject the change. If there is no response, Google may publish it when other public information supports it. Google may also make some edits without advance review when it considers them necessary to meet policy guidelines. Check the affected field and restore accurate information directly in the profile. For businesses updating many locations with a spreadsheet, a changed field replaces its previous value and any update. A blank field may allow an automatic update, so review the spreadsheet carefully before submitting it.
Correct your website, then ask Google to recrawl it
- Update and publish the correct information on the live page. A Google request cannot fix incorrect content that remains on your site.
- For a small number of URLs, open Search Console’s URL Inspection tool and request indexing. You must be an owner or full user of the Search Console property.
- For many URLs, submit a sitemap rather than requesting indexing one page at a time.
Google Search Central says, “Crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.” The guidance was last updated December 10, 2025. Repeating a request for the same URL does not make Google process it faster, and a request does not guarantee immediate or eventual appearance in Search. Read Ask Google to recrawl your URLs.

Refresh an outdated result from another website
If a third-party page has already been corrected or removed but Google Search still displays its old information, submit a request through Google’s outdated-content refresh process. You do not need to own the website to request a refresh. The request concerns Google’s result; it does not change the other site. If the incorrect information is still on the page, contact its publisher or owner first. Google removes Search content only under applicable conditions or legal and policy processes.
Use temporary removal only when you need a URL hidden
Search Console’s Removals tool is for temporarily hiding a URL on a property you own, not for routinely refreshing a corrected page. Google says a temporary block lasts about six months (180 days). The page can reappear unless you also take permanent steps, such as correcting or removing the source content. See Search Console’s removal guidance.

Report an ineligible or fraudulent listing
Do not try to remove a valid business listing just because a detail is wrong. If a listing appears inaccurate or ineligible, Google has a separate Business Profile removal request process. In Maps, users can also suggest that a place is closed, does not exist, is a duplicate, or has moved. For fraudulent business names, phone numbers, or websites, use Google’s Business Redressal Complaint form. Removing a profile from your own account is a separate action and does not guarantee the business disappears from Search or Maps.
