As of October 7, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI has not launched on PS5, so there is no released game installation to update or troubleshoot yet. Rockstar lists November 19, 2026 as the scheduled release date and says digital pre-orders may begin preloading at local midnight on November 12. Once the game is available, the standard PS5 update path is highlight the game on the home screen, press Options, then choose Check for Update. The steps below explain that process and how to diagnose common PS5 download, storage, and installation errors without implying that GTA VI has a known console-specific problem.
GTA VI release and preload dates for PS5
Rockstar Games’ platform and edition information, last updated August 18, 2026, lists GTA VI for PS5 and schedules its release for November 19, 2026. Rockstar says digital pre-orders may begin preloading at local midnight on November 12, 2026. These dates and availability are subject to change; check Rockstar’s current platform and edition information for updates.
Rockstar also describes the announced physical Standard Edition as a box containing a download code, not a disc. It says received codes can be used to support preload on November 12. The code’s region matters: Rockstar recommends buying and playing from a retailer in the same country as the platform account to avoid activation problems. The reviewed official information does not establish a GTA VI install size, known PS5 download bug, or GTA VI-specific troubleshooting fix.
How to check for a PS5 game update
- On the PS5 home screen, highlight the game or app.
- Press the controller’s Options button.
- Select Check for Update and follow the on-screen prompts if one is available.
PlayStation says launching a game or app automatically updates it to the newest version available. To configure automatic updates, follow PlayStation’s automatic-updates guide. For updates during Rest Mode, the console must remain connected to the internet while in that mode.

Fix a PS5 update that will not start or finish
Work through these steps in order. If an error code appears, note it and use the matching PlayStation support article rather than treating every failure as a network problem.
- Test the connection: go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
- Restart the PS5, then try the update again.
- Install the latest PS5 system software.
- If it still fails, delete the game and reinstall it from the Game Library or, where applicable, the game disc.
- If the problem continues, use Safe Mode and choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Follow PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions and do not interrupt system operations.
If those steps do not resolve the issue, contact PlayStation Support. PlayStation’s error-code index distinguishes, for example, CE-120706-6 (game update installation failure), NP-102947-3 (internet too slow or unstable for an update), and CE-100028-1 (insufficient free SSD space).

Fix a PS5 download that stops or fails
CE-107928-7: download failed
PlayStation’s guidance for CE-107928-7 is to delete the affected game from the home screen and try downloading it again. Do not turn off the console during the download. If it fails again:
- Test the connection at Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- Reset network settings if needed.
- Turn off the modem or router for five minutes, then restart it and retry.

CE-107527-2: installation failed
For CE-107527-2, PlayStation recommends restarting the console and improving the connection before retrying. Use a wired connection if possible; on Wi-Fi, move the PS5 closer to the router and reduce interference. You can also reconfigure the network connection and restart the router after leaving it powered off for five minutes. If failed game data appears under Settings > Storage, delete the game and download it again. Follow PlayStation’s CE-107527-2 guidance.
Fix a PS5 download that reports insufficient storage
CE-107872-5 means there is not enough free space on console storage to download or copy. Check Settings > Storage, remove content you no longer need, and retry. PlayStation also advises making sure the console has enough room for update data. Its error index describes CE-100028-1 as insufficient free SSD space. Rockstar has not published a GTA VI PS5 install-size requirement in the reviewed material, so do not use an unverified size estimate to decide how much space to clear.

- Open Settings > Storage.
- Select the storage location containing the affected game.
- Delete the game, then reinstall it.
