If your Samsung phone asks for a PUK, retrieve the code for that SIM from its original holder or your mobile carrier. Enter it only when prompted, then follow the phone’s instructions to set a new SIM PIN. Do not guess: Samsung Korea warns that too many incorrect PUK entries can make the SIM unusable.
Before you start: confirm it is a SIM PUK prompt
A PUK protects the SIM, not the Samsung phone itself. The prompt commonly appears after repeated incorrect SIM PIN attempts. A network unlock prompt is different: it concerns a handset restricted to a provider, and a PUK will not resolve it. Samsung UK says to request a network unlock code from the original service provider or retailer; that guidance is for network unlocking, not SIM PUK recovery. Samsung UK’s network-unlock guidance.
How to find your SIM’s PUK
- Check the SIM holder or packaging. Look for the card or plastic holder the SIM was supplied in. Samsung Korea says the SIM’s unique PUK is printed there.
- If you no longer have it, check with your carrier. Use the carrier’s authenticated account or support channel if available. The PUK is specific to your SIM, so do not use a code found for another SIM or phone.
- Use a route that applies to your provider and region. Samsung Korea describes account lookup routes for Korean carriers SKT, KT, and U+; those routes are local, not universal. For Verizon, instructions for the Samsung Galaxy S26 family direct users to the My Verizon website to locate the PUK. Samsung Taiwan also advises contacting the carrier for the code.
Samsung’s guidance supports obtaining the code from the SIM holder or carrier, but exact account steps and contact details vary by carrier and country. If you cannot locate the code in your account, contact your carrier and ask for the PUK associated with the locked SIM.
How to enter the PUK and reset the SIM PIN
- Wait until the Samsung phone displays a PUK request for the SIM.
- Enter the PUK supplied for that SIM. Do not enter a guessed code.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new SIM PIN, then enter it again to confirm.
The exact wording and sequence of screens can vary by Samsung model, software version, carrier, and region. Follow the prompts shown on your device rather than assuming every Galaxy uses identical labels.

What happens if you enter the wrong PUK?
Samsung Korea’s PUK lookup guidance, dated February 26, 2026, says three incorrect SIM PIN attempts lead to a PUK prompt and warns that ten incorrect PUK entries make the SIM unusable. These are the thresholds Samsung Korea publishes; they should not be treated as a guarantee of every carrier’s policy. If the SIM becomes unusable after failed attempts, contact your carrier about obtaining a replacement SIM.
- Stop entering codes if you are unsure the PUK is correct.
- Ask the carrier to verify the PUK for the specific SIM before trying again.
- If the SIM has already been disabled, ask the carrier about replacement rather than continuing to try codes.
Why there is no universal Samsung PUK code
The PUK belongs to the SIM and is issued or managed by its mobile carrier; it is not a general Samsung phone code. A different phone model does not change which code is needed. Likewise, buying a SIM eject tool or a generic replacement SIM cannot reveal or unlock the PUK for the SIM already in your phone.
