Samsung uses different controls by model. An interior or top-of-door panel may unlock by holding Door Alarm for about three seconds; some exterior panels use Ice Maker Off; a Family Hub dispenser is unlocked in Fridge Manager. Use only the method that matches your fridge, and check its model-specific manual if the controls differ.
Identify which lock is active
A lit lock icon or a panel that only chimes when touched can indicate that a lock is active; it does not, by itself, mean the refrigerator is broken. Samsung describes several lock functions, and the control layout varies by model (Samsung support).
Check what still works before changing settings:
- If the display and dispenser controls are both disabled, Child Lock or Control Lock may be active.
- If temperature and other panel controls work but water or ice will not dispense, check for a separate Dispenser Lock.
Unlock the control panel
Interior or top-of-door panel: Automatic Control Lock
On some models with a panel inside the refrigerator or on top of a door, Automatic Control Lock can engage after one minute without activity. Touch and hold Door Alarm for about three seconds, until you hear a chime. This behavior and button are model-dependent; Samsung’s instructions are in its control-panel guide.
Exterior panel: Child Lock or Control Lock
On applicable models, touch and hold Ice Maker Off for about three seconds, until the chime, to toggle Child Lock or Control Lock. Button names and behavior are not universal, so do not try this sequence if your panel does not have the named control. Samsung Gulf also documents this sequence for applicable models (Samsung Gulf support).

Unlock only the water and ice dispenser
Family Hub models
- Tap Apps.
- Open Fridge Manager, then Fridge Settings.
- Tap Lock beside Dispenser Lock. If the setting shows Unlock, the dispenser is already unlocked.
Samsung’s control-panel guide gives this Family Hub path. Menu labels or availability can vary by model.
Physical dispenser switch on some Canadian-market models
Some refrigerators sold in Canada have a physical lock switch near the dispenser. Slide it to Unlock. Samsung Canada notes that its instructions apply to Canadian-market refrigerators and settings may differ; check the manual for your model (Samsung Canada support).

If the controls or instructions do not match
Stop rather than guessing at other button combinations. Find the refrigerator’s model number and consult its owner’s manual. Samsung says its unlock steps vary by model and directs users to the manual when the panel differs or the listed steps do not work (Samsung US support). Regional instructions are not interchangeable: for example, the physical dispenser switch described by Samsung Canada is for some Canadian-market models.

Family Hub display
Samsung advises resetting the Family Hub display with the switch at the inside top of the upper-right door. Follow the instructions for your model if the switch or its operation is unclear (Samsung troubleshooting).

Other models
- Unplug the refrigerator, or switch off its power at the circuit breaker.
- Leave power off for 60 seconds, then restore it.
- Allow the refrigerator to boot. If the panel still does not respond, request service from Samsung.
This is Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance, not a guarantee that a power reset will resolve every fault (Samsung troubleshooting).
