How you unlock a Samsung Galaxy A01 depends on what is locked. A carrier or network lock must be handled through the carrier that originally sold or locked the phone. A forgotten screen PIN, pattern, or password is a separate issue and recovery may erase the phone. Bootloader unlocking for rooting or custom firmware is different again, and support is not established for every A01 variant or region.

First, identify which lock you mean

Check the exact message on the phone and what you want to do. A prompt that says “SIM network unlock PIN” points to a carrier restriction; a request for your screen PIN, pattern, or password protects access to the phone itself. A bootloader unlock concerns software modification, not mobile service.

  • To use another carrier: contact the carrier that originally sold or locked the A01.
  • To regain access after forgetting the screen lock: use Samsung’s supported recovery options, understanding that a reset can erase data.
  • To root or install custom firmware: confirm support for the exact model and region rather than assuming a carrier unlock enables bootloader unlocking.

Unlock a Galaxy A01 for another carrier

The original carrier determines whether the phone is eligible and how to request a network unlock. Samsung states that “Unlock requirements vary by carrier and are not dictated by Samsung.” See Samsung’s guidance on moving a Galaxy phone to a different service carrier. Eligibility can depend on the carrier, account type, device history, and country, so a rule that applies to one A01 owner may not apply to another.

Check the A01’s network-lock status

The Galaxy A01 manual describes network-unlock options under Settings > Connections > More connection settings, including Network lock status and a Permanent unlock request. The manual cautions that available options may vary by carrier. Menu names and availability can also differ by device variant and software version; consult the manual for your model and check what appears on your phone. See the Galaxy A01 support page and manual.

Request the unlock from the original carrier

  1. Identify the carrier that originally sold or locked the phone. Have the exact model or model suffix, region, and account details available.
  2. Check the phone’s network-lock status or network-unlock settings if those options appear.
  3. Use the original carrier’s official support channel to check the device and account’s eligibility and request an unlock.
  4. Follow the carrier’s instructions, then test the phone with the intended service. A carrier may provide a code or another procedure; Samsung directs owners to the carrier for the network-unlock process.

For an “SIM network unlock PIN” prompt, ask the original carrier for network-unlock help. Do not confuse this code with a SIM card’s PIN or PUK, or with the phone’s screen PIN. Avoid repeated guesses or third-party code sellers; the carrier is the authority on whether the device can be unlocked.

Use a different SIM only as a check

Inserting a SIM from another carrier may reveal whether the A01 still has a network restriction, but the SIM does not authorize or complete an unlock. AT&T, for example, describes checking an AT&T device’s status with a non-AT&T SIM. Its published Prepaid rules require 12 months of paid AT&T service, that the device not be active on another AT&T account, and that it not be reported lost, stolen, or associated with fraud. Those are AT&T Prepaid conditions, not universal rules for every A01 or every AT&T account type. Check AT&T’s device-unlock guidance for the applicable account and current requirements.

Recover access if you forgot the screen lock

A forgotten screen PIN, pattern, or password does not determine whether the A01 can use another carrier. Samsung’s supported screen-lock recovery routes can involve resetting the device, which erases personal data stored on it. Before proceeding, check whether you can use an available account-based recovery option or restore access from a backup. Samsung outlines recovery options in its screen-lock troubleshooting guidance.

Know what happens after a recovery reset

After a reset performed through the Recovery menu, Google Device Protection may ask for the Google account and password previously used on the phone. This security check is intended to prevent someone from making a reset device usable without the owner’s account. Samsung says that if you cannot recover those credentials, contact an authorized service center and bring proof of purchase. Do not try to bypass account verification. See Samsung’s Google Device Protection guidance.

Bootloader unlocking, rooting, and custom firmware

Bootloader unlocking is not the same as removing a carrier restriction. A network-unlocked phone is not thereby confirmed to support bootloader unlocking, rooting, or custom firmware. Samsung’s Developer FAQ directs device-specific questions to Samsung support but does not establish A01-wide eligibility across model variants and regions. Check with Samsung for the exact model and region before attempting a software modification; do not rely on carrier-unlock status as proof of support. See the Samsung Developer FAQ and support resources.
