To make Windows 11 circle your mouse pointer when you press Ctrl, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings. In Mouse Properties, select Pointer Options, then check Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key and select OK. Clear the checkbox to turn the indicator off.
Turn the Ctrl-triggered pointer circle on or off
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Under Related settings, select Additional mouse settings.
- In the Mouse Properties window, select the Pointer Options tab.
- Under Visibility, check Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key to enable the indicator. Clear the checkbox to disable it.
- Select OK, then press Ctrl to test the setting.
When enabled, Windows circles the pointer while you press Ctrl. Microsoft describes this built-in feature as a way to find the mouse pointer; its instructions specify Ctrl as the trigger, not a user-selectable alternative key. See Microsoft Support’s mouse settings instructions.
How this differs from other pointer settings
The Ctrl-triggered circle is separate from other Windows options that affect the pointer:
- Display pointer trails leaves trails as the pointer moves. It is also in Mouse Properties > Pointer Options, but it does not use the Ctrl-triggered circle.
- Pointer size and style change the pointer’s appearance. Find these controls at Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch.
- Text cursor visibility controls the insertion cursor in text, rather than the mouse arrow.

If the setting looks different
Windows labels can vary slightly by release or display language. In Microsoft’s English instructions, the relevant tab is Pointer Options and the checkbox is Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key. Look under the Mouse Properties dialog’s Visibility section.
