If the fan runs while the device is in sleep, ASUS recommends using hibernation; if you need the computer to stay on, use the quietest fan mode your specific model supports. Laptop controls, ROG/TUF gaming modes, and desktop motherboard fan controls are different.
If the fan keeps running while your ASUS computer is asleep
Sleep does not necessarily stop the components that generate heat. ASUS explains that the CPU and GPU remain operational in sleep and the fan may continue running to cool them. If you want the fan to stop while the computer is inactive, ASUS recommends hibernation, where the CPU and GPU stop functioning. See ASUS’s overheating and fan troubleshooting FAQ for this guidance.
Hibernation is not a quieter operating profile: it makes the computer inactive rather than keeping it ready in sleep. If you need the computer to remain on, choose a supported quiet mode instead.
Make a standard ASUS laptop quieter with MyASUS
- Open MyASUS.
- Select Device Settings.
- Look for ASUS Intelligent Performance Technology or Fan Mode, then select an available quieter mode.
The setting names and available modes vary by model. If MyASUS does not show a Device Settings page, ASUS says the device does not support that feature. The route and compatibility note are documented in the ASUS troubleshooting FAQ. A quiet mode aims to reduce noise; it is not a promise that the fan will stop while the computer is powered on.

Choose a mode on an ASUS ROG or TUF gaming system
ROG and TUF gaming computers use the operating-mode selector in Armoury Crate. ASUS’s Armoury Crate guide describes the modes as follows:

Mode availability and behavior differ by model and series. A Silent setting reduces noise by limiting power; it does not disable cooling. Manual mode may be unavailable on your device, so use only options shown in Armoury Crate for that model.

Control a desktop fan connected to an ASUS motherboard
For a desktop, motherboard software can control fans attached to supported motherboard fan headers. This is separate from the built-in fan modes on ASUS laptops.
- On supported boards, open AI Suite 3 and use Fan Xpert 4 to select a preset or adjust a smart fan curve.
- Fan Xpert 4 provides Silent, Standard, Turbo, and Full Speed presets. ASUS also describes an Auto-Fan Stop control that can stop a fan at very low RPMs.
- For Intel 600-series and AMD X670E-series motherboards and newer boards referenced by ASUS, Fan Xpert functionality is integrated into Armoury Crate rather than AI Suite 3. On a supported setup, ASUS documents the route as Dashboard > Fan mode > Silent in its motherboard Armoury Crate power-saving settings guide.
These controls apply to motherboard-connected fans on compatible boards; they are not a method for turning off a laptop’s internal fan. For the board-specific feature and compatibility details, see ASUS’s Fan Xpert 4 introduction.

Why a fan slider may not stop the fan
Do not assume that a 100% setting in Armoury Crate’s Manual mode represents the fan’s physical maximum. ASUS notes that the adjustable Manual-mode ceiling may be lower. Its MyASUS fan diagnosis can briefly drive the fan to physical maximum for testing, which is a diagnostic action, not a normal quiet-mode control. ASUS describes both behaviors in its fan troubleshooting FAQ.
ASUS does not document one fan-off control that works across all powered-on computers. Fan controls depend on the device and model, and disabling cooling is not a generally safe way to reduce noise. If the fan seems abnormal or the computer overheats, follow ASUS troubleshooting for the exact model rather than trying to force the fan off.
