On your PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Purchase Settings, then turn off Require Password at Checkout. This removes the password screen that PlayStation Store otherwise shows when you make a purchase; it does not disable purchases or remove your payment method. PlayStation’s checkout-password guide gives the official steps.
Turn off the checkout password on PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Purchase Settings.
- Turn off Require Password at Checkout.
PlayStation says the password screen appears whenever you make a purchase. Turning off this setting removes that extra checkout prompt; it does not prevent purchases from being made.
What the setting affects
This is a PlayStation Store account setting, not a PS5-only toggle. PlayStation says the setting applies to all devices used to access the Store, so changing it on the console affects Store checkout on your other devices too. PlayStation Support explains the setting’s scope.
Important exceptions
Child accounts
The checkout-password requirement does not apply to child accounts. To prevent purchases on a child account, PlayStation advises setting its spending limit to zero. A family manager can manage the child account’s spending limit; see PlayStation’s Store and refund guidance.

Adding funds to your wallet
The checkout-password requirement does not apply when adding money to a PlayStation wallet. Turning it on or off does not add a password prompt to wallet funding.
Accounts with passkeys
PlayStation says Require Password at Checkout is not compatible with accounts that have passkeys set up. This is a limitation on activating the checkout-password feature, not a general warning that passkeys make an account less secure. See PlayStation’s security best practices.

Should you leave checkout passwords on?
Leaving the requirement on adds a password check to Store purchases, while turning it off makes checkout less interrupted. Choose based on whether that extra confirmation is useful for your account and household; it does not replace child-account spending limits.
