Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo stop future beta updates, go to Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and choose Off. That stops future beta releases; it does not roll back a beta already installed. If you only want stable updates going forward, leave the beta program off and install a public update when Software Update offers one for your Mac. Replacing an installed beta with an earlier macOS release is a separate process and may require erasing the Mac.
Turn off future macOS beta updates
- Open the Apple menu and select System Settings.
- Click General in the sidebar, then select Software Update.
- Click Beta Updates.
- Choose Off.
- Return to Software Update and install a public update when one is offered for your Mac. Review the version shown before installing.
Apple’s Software Update settings guide describes the control this way: “Beta Updates | Turn off beta updates, or choose the type of beta to receive.” Apple says the option appears when the Mac is enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program. See Apple’s Software Update settings guide.
What happens after you switch Beta Updates off?
The setting prevents future beta releases from being offered; it does not replace the macOS version already installed. Apple documents beta enrollment separately from macOS recovery and reinstallation, so treat stopping beta updates and removing an installed beta as different goals. Apple Beta Software Program enrollment information.
If your goal is simply to receive stable releases from now on, the least disruptive choice is to turn beta updates off and wait for a compatible public update to appear in Software Update. This does not guarantee a release date; availability depends on the public releases offered for your Mac.

If you want to replace an installed beta
First decide whether you need an earlier public version immediately. If not, keep Beta Updates off and wait for the next public update offered to your Mac. If the installed beta is newer than the public version you want, switching the setting off does not perform that downgrade.
A standard macOS Recovery reinstall is not a universal downgrade method. Apple says a normal reinstall generally preserves apps and personal data, but the macOS version offered depends on the Mac and the Recovery startup method. On Apple silicon, Recovery’s standard reinstall installs the current version of the most recently installed macOS. Intel Recovery key combinations can target different macOS versions. Follow Apple’s instructions for your specific hardware rather than assuming one recovery method will install the release you want. Apple’s macOS Recovery instructions.

Apple silicon Macs
Apple says that if an Apple silicon Mac had a macOS beta installed, erasing it and reinstalling macOS may provide the previous release. This is a specific Apple silicon case, not a general rule for every Mac or every reinstall. Apple’s instructions for erasing an Apple silicon Mac.
Intel Macs
On Intel Macs, the macOS version Recovery offers can depend on the startup key combination used. Apple documents different targets for Command-R, Option-Command-R, and Shift-Option-Command-R. Check Apple’s current Recovery instructions for your model before starting; do not assume these combinations are interchangeable or that any one will install the same release on every Mac.

Back up before erasing or reinstalling
Erasing a Mac deletes its information. Make a verified backup before proceeding, and keep important files accessible separately. Apple recommends backing up before installing macOS software and before erasing. A backup made on a newer macOS version may not be fully restorable to an earlier version, so check compatibility rather than relying on a complete system restore to work. Apple’s backup guidance.
Apple’s erase-and-reinstall path is therefore a last-resort route for someone who needs an earlier public release now, not a required step for stopping beta updates. Consult Apple’s current erase, Recovery, and reinstall instructions for your Mac model before you proceed. Reinstall macOS using Recovery.
