How do I make subtitles easier to read?
Use the subtitle options together or separately: add a backdrop, display speaker names, choose a subtitle text color, and turn on Large Text. PlayStation describes the backdrop as a way to make subtitles easier to read and says speaker names can be displayed in the subtitles.

Do not assume that subtitles cover every spoken or ambient sound: the Store says subtitles cover the main story and main characters, not every possible sound in the game.
Can I change colors or play without relying on color alone?
Yes. PlayStation says players do not need to rely on understanding color to play and that important colors can be changed to make them easier to tell apart. The documented subtitle color choices are White, Yellow, Blue, Red, and Green.

That statement supports color alternatives, but it does not establish a list of named color-blindness presets or specific clinical modes. If a color-coded element is difficult for you, look for the relevant in-game color option and judge whether the available alternative makes it clearer. For subtitles, the five text-color choices are explicitly documented; do not assume every color element in the game has the same palette or adjustment control.
Which settings help with navigation, offscreen threats, and visual comfort?

Enhanced Wind Visibility and Wind Gust Camera are related but distinct. One makes the Guiding Wind easier to see; the other automatically moves the camera toward it when it blows. If you want a clearer visual cue without automatic camera movement, the visibility option is the more direct place to start. If you want help orienting toward the wind, try the camera option and decide whether its movement suits you.
The offscreen indicator has more than a simple on/off choice. Start with Minimal if you want a restrained cue, or try Default and Default With HUD indicators if you need more prominent information. None turns the indicator off. The setting is specifically described as providing cues when offscreen enemies detect you; it should not be mistaken for a general marker for every unseen object or every threat.
Persistent Centre Dot offers Off, Small, Medium, and Large. PlayStation describes it as helping reduce motion sickness, but that is not a guarantee that it will work for everyone. Try a size that remains comfortable to look at, or leave it off if a fixed dot is distracting.

Does Ghost of Yōtei have aim assist?
Yes. Aim Assist can be turned on or off, and PlayStation describes it as improving ranged-weapon accuracy by auto-targeting nearby enemies. It is a ranged-weapon assist, not a general promise of automatic targeting for melee combat.

Match the option to the barrier. If the visual cue for an attack is too small to follow, try Enhanced Combat Cues. If you miss ranged attacks because nearby targets are difficult to aim at, try Aim Assist. If offscreen projectiles catch you by surprise, Projectile Indicator is the more relevant choice. If the bright Blind Bomb flash is uncomfortable, change Dark Flashes for Blind Bombs.
These settings do not all do the same thing: one enlarges a visual timing cue, another helps with ranged accuracy, another warns about attacks from outside the screen, and the last changes a particular flash effect. You can enable more than one if you need more than one kind of assistance.
Can I simplify button holds, rapid presses, or motion controls?
Yes. The documented options reduce several different input demands: Simplified Button Holds changes certain hold-button prompts to single presses; Rapid Button Presses can be set to Simplified; and forging and campfire controls each offer a simplified R2-button method instead of a motion-sensor or microphone method.

- For attack timing, try Enhanced Combat Cues. It enlarges glint visuals, so it is the targeted option for difficulty seeing those cues in time.
- For aiming at nearby enemies with ranged weapons, try Aim Assist. Keep in mind that its description is specific to ranged weapons.
- For visual discomfort, consider Persistent Centre Dot or Dark Flashes for Blind Bombs, depending on whether the concern is motion sickness or a bright Blind Bomb flash.
- For demanding inputs, set Rapid Button Presses to Simplified, enable Simplified Button Holds where appropriate, and select the R2 alternatives for forging or campfires if motion or microphone input is not workable.
There is no single best arrangement for every player. A practical setup is one you can understand, operate comfortably, and change when a different activity calls for a different kind of assistance. If a cue becomes visually busy, reduce or turn off the relevant indicator; if a task remains difficult, check whether a separate setting addresses that specific action.

The PlayStation Store also lists individual volume controls, 3D audio, control and tutorial reminders, practice mode, offline pausing during gameplay or cinematics, manual saving, and some stick-sensitivity options. These can be useful alongside the settings covered above, but they serve different needs: for example, stick sensitivity is about control response, while reminders and practice mode can support learning and recall.
