Cisco documents business-channel integrations, not automatic syncing of personal WhatsApp chats into Webex App. The troubleshooting steps differ depending on which setup you use and whether messages fail going to or from an agent.
Identify what “sync with Webex” means
Before changing settings, establish the product boundary and the direction of the failure. WhatsApp Web connectivity, Webex App messaging, and an enterprise WhatsApp Business workflow are separate systems. WhatsApp Business is supported as a channel in Webex Connect; that does not mean personal WhatsApp conversations automatically appear in Webex App. Cisco describes the channel and its integration context in its Webex Connect documentation.
- WhatsApp Web or linked device: A browser or linked device cannot connect to WhatsApp.
- Webex App: Messages in Webex spaces fail independently of WhatsApp.
- WhatsApp Business integration: A customer’s WhatsApp message does not reach an agent, or an agent’s reply does not reach the customer through Webex Connect or Contact Center Enterprise.
Note the message direction, whether the problem affects text or only attachments, and whether it affects one person or many. For a business integration, also identify the Cisco product and deployment; the steps below include an example workflow and are not universal instructions for every tenant.
If WhatsApp Web or a linked browser session will not connect
Start with the device and network rather than Webex. WhatsApp’s connection guidance recommends checking connectivity and trying another network; on a managed work or campus network, an administrator may need to allow WhatsApp traffic. See WhatsApp’s connection troubleshooting guidance.

- Confirm the phone or linked device has an active internet connection, then refresh WhatsApp Web.
- Try another Wi-Fi network or a mobile hotspot. If it works there, the original network may be blocking the connection.
- Clear the browser’s cache and cookies, then log out of WhatsApp Web and link or sign in again.
- Restart the device and test again.
- On a work or campus network, ask the network administrator whether traffic to
web.whatsapp.comor.whatsapp.netis blocked and whether it can be allowed.
A browser-session failure alone does not show that a Webex Business integration is broken.
If a WhatsApp Business message gets no response through Webex
For an integrated business number, check the Webex Connect configuration before treating the symptom as a device-sync problem. Cisco’s WhatsApp Integration with Webex Connect User Guide says the integrated number will not respond until a WhatsApp Inbound flow is set up and associated with the newly created WhatsApp asset.

Verify the inbound flow and number
- Confirm that a WhatsApp Inbound flow exists and is associated with the correct WhatsApp asset.
- Check the flow’s
WANumbersetting against the business number. Include the country code and omit the plus sign. - If the tenant has multiple WhatsApp assets or business numbers, verify the correct asset ID is used in the relevant event-flow conditions. Cisco calls out events including
CREATED,QUEUED,ROUTED,CLOSED, andTRANSFERRED.
Changing a number or asset reference without checking how the flow is associated can send events down the wrong path. If you are not the Webex Connect administrator, ask that administrator to verify these settings.
If the message enters the flow but does not reach an agent
Trace the configured route from the incoming WhatsApp event to the agent. Cisco’s Webex Connect-to-Webex App integration example shows checkpoints such as event processing, session lookup, guest authentication and token updates, message forwarding, and agent mapping. Use these as diagnostic areas to inspect, not as a claim that every production workflow uses the same steps.

- Confirm the inbound event is received and processed by the expected flow.
- Check whether the customer’s contact or session is found or created as expected.
- Verify guest authentication and any required token refresh or update in the configured workflow.
- Check that the message-send step targets the intended Webex agent.
- Confirm the agent mapping resolves. In Cisco’s example, an email address that does not match an agent can lead to an agent-not-found result.
If text messages arrive but attachments do not, inspect the attachment-specific path separately. Cisco’s example handles attachment detection and forwarding separately; its Webex-to-WhatsApp side also retrieves full message details and handles image types through dedicated steps.
If an agent’s reply does not reach the WhatsApp customer
Determine whether the outbound flow receives the agent’s reply and whether it can identify the correct WhatsApp contact or session. In the example workflow, the outbound side retrieves full message details and treats image types separately, so compare a plain-text reply with an attachment if only one type fails. Check the deployed flow’s routing, session lookup, and message-send result rather than assuming that an inbound-flow fix will also resolve outbound delivery.

If Webex App messaging is failing too
If Webex messages fail even when WhatsApp is not involved, troubleshoot Webex App as a separate issue. Cisco’s Webex App troubleshooting guidance recommends comparing the web app, devices, and networks, and checking whether organization restrictions apply.
- Try the Webex web app and compare the result with the desktop or mobile app.
- Test another device on the same network, then another network. This helps distinguish an app/device fault from a network issue.
- Ask the organization administrator whether messaging or file-sharing restrictions affect your account, space, or organization.
- Update Webex App and the operating system. If the issue involves only files, test a different file type.
- If ordinary checks fail, Cisco’s general guidance also includes clearing the app cache, reinstalling, resetting the Webex database where available, and temporarily testing without a VPN or proxy.
Before contacting Cisco support, record the exact error and take a screenshot. Include who is affected, whether the issue is limited to one person or space, app and operating-system versions, when it began, recent account, network, or software changes, network location, and whether a VPN or proxy is in use.

Check WhatsApp Business messaging-window behavior
Cisco’s 2025 Webex guide describes session messages as available within 24 hours of the customer’s last message to a verified business account. Its example uses a WhatsApp template when ordinary text or image messages fail under WhatsApp engagement rules. If a reply fails after a customer-initiated session, check the current WhatsApp Business rules and the template configuration for the deployed integration before concluding that the messaging window caused it.
