Current FramePort is designed to prepare games made for Meta Quest, Android, or PCVR to run on Valve Steam Frame. It is not documented as an app for launching Steam Frame games on a Quest headset. If you mean games failing directly on Quest, use the separate native-Quest checks below; the FramePort steps apply to games being prepared for Steam Frame.

First, confirm which setup you mean

FramePort’s project documentation describes a workflow that uploads game files to Steam Frame, applies compatibility patches, and adds shortcuts to the Steam library. It does not describe running FramePort on Quest. See the FramePort project README for the current project description.

FramePort does not provide game files: its README says it “does NOT download, share, or unlock games.” You must supply legally obtained game executables. Support is title-specific; a working recipe for one Quest game does not establish that all Quest games will work.

Identify where the failure occurs

Before changing settings, classify the symptom. A connection failure between FramePort and Steam Frame is different from a single game that installs but will not start. Also distinguish a game that opens in a flat window, one that launches but loses input or focus, and one that runs on a Quest headset but fails after being prepared for Frame.

Record the game name and source build, FramePort and Steam Frame software versions, computer operating system, exact error text, relevant launch-log lines, and whether other titles still launch. This helps separate a shared setup problem from a title-specific one.

If FramePort cannot connect to Steam Frame

The documented initial setup requires the computer and Steam Frame to be on the same network. Follow the setup path in the FramePort installation guide:

  1. In FramePort, open the Steam Frame page and select Show setup command.
  2. On Steam Frame, open the SteamVR dashboard, choose Launch a program, then Desktop.
  3. Open Konsole on the desktop and enter the setup command exactly as FramePort displays it.
  4. Leave FramePort open and allow the connection to complete after Steam restarts.

The guide also describes an alternate path: enable Developer Mode in Frame settings, pair a new host, and approve the connection. Use the instructions shown by your version of FramePort rather than mixing steps from different setup paths.

If the setup command times out

  • Confirm both devices are on the same network and that FramePort is still open.
  • Check whether the computer firewall is blocking Steam Frame. The installation guide says the setup page identifies the relevant firewall after roughly 45 seconds if the command times out.
  • Apply the project’s firewall instructions for the identified firewall. Do not disable the firewall wholesale.

If only one game fails to start

Check the game’s FramePort page and the tested-games list. Games with tested recipes receive their best-known configuration automatically; for other games FramePort may guess which patches are likely to help. A guessed configuration is not a confirmed compatibility result.

Use the project’s documented scan, show, build, install, and test sequence in its troubleshooting playbook. Follow the symptom and log evidence instead of applying every available patch at once. For visual or focus problems, wear the headset and check how the game actually appears: the playbook notes that a headless test cannot judge the visual result or confirm the focused state.

Match the error to the documented case

  • Android app activity will not start: The playbook identifies a missing LAUNCHER category in an Android manifest as one possible cause and gives a specific patch for that case.
  • Some PCVR titles fail: The playbook documents cases involving an OpenXR API-version mismatch. It also notes that Oculus-only PCVR cases may depend on Revive or a running SteamVR runtime. These are specific project-documented cases, not universal fixes for Quest apps.
  • Game is 32-bit only: The playbook treats this as a stop condition. Repeatedly changing settings is not its recommended remedy.
  • Every game fails, with matching system errors: The playbook documents a Frame-wide rootless Podman issue that can exhaust a kernel key quota after repeated launches. Relevant errors include “Disk quota exceeded” and “is not a running context.” In that documented case, the fix is to set keyring = false in ~/.config/containers/containers.conf and reboot Frame once; FramePort says its agent handles this setting. Treat this as an advanced, symptom-matched case—not a first-line fix for an ordinary single-game failure.

If the game launches but looks or behaves wrong

A launch is not proof that the game is correctly running in VR. If it opens as a flat window, loses input, or appears unfocused, note that separately from a failure to start and inspect the headset view while following the playbook’s test procedure. FramePort’s recipes and patches address different compatibility paths, so use the instructions associated with the game and observed symptom rather than assuming a Quest-native fix applies to a Steam Frame setup.

Report an unresolved FramePort problem

FramePort’s installation guide says the game menu includes Report a problem…. The diagnostic archive includes logs, the recipe, and device details; the guide says personal data such as IP addresses, user names, home folders, and Steam IDs are replaced. If you have a working configuration worth sharing, the README describes Share working config…. These tools provide evidence to the project; they do not guarantee a fix.

If you mean a game running directly on Meta Quest

Native Quest troubleshooting is separate from FramePort-on-Steam-Frame troubleshooting. A Meta community support thread suggests first checking whether the problem affects all apps or selected ones, whether the app came from the official Meta store, whether the headset is current, whether another Wi-Fi network changes the result, and whether Home itself is affected. The discussion also includes Meta support’s hard-reboot instructions; follow the instructions in the thread for that device and situation.

For a Quest app’s compatibility behavior, Meta’s Horizon OS compatibility-mode documentation explains that the app’s com.oculus.supportedDevices manifest entry can determine a compatibility model when an app launches on a device it does not list. Meta says compatibility mode changes selected API-reported device information, but “does not change CPU or GPU speed.” This does not establish a cause for games failing through FramePort on Steam Frame.

Some waiting advice is publisher- and game-specific. For example, Square Enix Support tells players of its Quest game to allow up to three minutes for data to load on an initial launch or one immediately after a Horizon OS firmware update. Do not treat that timing as a universal timeout for other games.
