To troubleshoot lag on a China-region game server, first identify whether you have high, steady ping, ping spikes, packet loss, disconnects, or visual stutter. Then check the game’s service status, compare with other games, and test your connection over Ethernet with other network-heavy activity paused. These steps help narrow down the cause; they cannot establish your game’s server location or diagnose a particular ISP route without more details.
First identify what “lag” looks like
Different symptoms point to different problems. Ping, or latency, is the round-trip time for packets to travel between your device and a game server. Jitter is variation in that latency, and packet loss means packets fail to arrive. High steady ping can make actions feel delayed; spikes, jitter, and packet loss can make play erratic or cause disconnects. Riot Games Support explains these measures in its connection troubleshooting guide.
- High, steady ping: Record the value shown by the game and whether it stays consistently high.
- Spikes or jitter: Note when ping jumps and whether the jumps coincide with other network use.
- Packet loss or disconnects: Record the game’s indicators and the times they occur.
- Visual stutter: Check whether the game’s network indicators change. Stutter without network symptoms may be a local performance issue rather than network lag.
There is no single ping threshold or latency range that can be promised for “servers in China.” Your location, the game’s selected region, your ISP, and the route in use all matter.
Check whether the problem is the game or your connection
- Check the game publisher’s official status page and support notices. A service incident may affect the game even when other internet activity works normally.
- Compare with another online game or ordinary internet use. If several services are affected, look at your local network or ISP. If only one game is affected, focus on its selected region, service status, client, and support guidance.
- Note the scope and timing. Record whether the problem is continuous, occurs at particular times, or affects only one game or server selection.
Riot’s connection guidance groups possible causes into the game service, the ISP, and local software, environment, or equipment. This is a useful way to organize the checks, not a diagnosis of your own connection. See League of Legends Support’s reconnection guidance for its discussion of connection problems.

Run controlled tests on your local connection
Change one thing at a time where practical, and repeat the same game and server test over a similar time window. That makes it easier to tell whether a change affects ping stability, spikes, or packet loss.
Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If possible, connect the gaming device to the router with Ethernet and repeat the test. If you need a cable to make the comparison, a Cat6 cable can enable the wired test; it is not a guaranteed lag cure. Riot Games Support notes: “Wireless connections tend to be difficult to troubleshoot due to potential interference from the environment and other radio signals, which can cause lag spikes and/or packet loss in the game.” Read its PC connection troubleshooting guidance.

Ethernet can help isolate Wi-Fi interference, but it does not eliminate physical distance to the server or upstream routing delays. Compare the symptoms rather than assuming a wired connection must lower ping.
Pause competing network activity
Briefly pause downloads, large game updates, video streams, and other network-heavy applications. If the connection is shared, ask other users to pause heavy activity during the test. Riot’s reconnection guidance discusses how network load can contribute to connection trouble, particularly on shared connections.

Test without a VPN or proxy
If you use a VPN or proxy, test the game without it unless the game’s support team specifically asks you to run a routing test. A VPN changes the route your traffic takes; it is not a general-purpose way to lower ping. Riot advises against using a VPN to connect to its game servers except for specific routing tests directed by support, and its cross-region VPN guidance notes that lag spikes can affect players. This is Riot-specific guidance, not a blanket rule for every game.
Follow the game’s own client and network guidance
Use the publisher’s instructions for repair tools, firewall settings, drivers, client updates, and log collection rather than applying steps meant for another game. For Riot games, its PC connection troubleshooting guide includes network-driver and firewall checks and recommends collecting logs if the problem continues.

Understand what a China server label does—and does not—tell you
A game’s “China” region label does not by itself establish the physical location of the server handling your match, the route your traffic takes, or the cause of a delay. Internet traffic can pass between backbone and ISP networks; Riot’s explanation of routing for real-time applications describes how network interconnections and routing equipment can contribute to latency and packet loss. That makes routing one possibility to investigate, not a conclusion about your connection.
Riot Games Support says: “When your internet connection works normally, your physical distance from Riot game servers is the largest contributing factor to latency.” This statement concerns Riot’s game servers; it is not a measured latency estimate for every China-region game or player.

Huawei Cloud describes a Global Accelerator service that routes traffic from nearby access points over its backbone toward game servers, with the aim of reducing hops, latency, jitter, and packet loss. Its service overview describes a cloud service, not independent evidence that it is available or beneficial for your game, route, or consumer setup. Do not assume an accelerator will solve a particular connection problem.
Collect evidence before contacting support
If the basic comparisons do not narrow down the issue, write down the conditions and send useful evidence to the publisher. Ask your ISP to investigate when the symptoms point beyond one game, or when you want it to examine a specific destination and time pattern.
- Game name and selected region or server.
- Your country or general region, without sharing more personal detail than needed.
- Date and time of the problem, including whether it is recurring or limited to particular periods.
- Whether you were on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether other household users or applications were using the connection.
- The game’s ping, jitter, or packet-loss indicators and whether the issue involved spikes, disconnects, or continuous delay.
- Whether other games or internet services were affected.
- Logs requested by the game publisher and any relevant service-status notice.
Start with the game publisher’s support process and logs, then describe the destination or service and observed time pattern to your ISP if you need it to check the connection. Riot’s connection guidance provides game-specific examples of troubleshooting and log collection.
