Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallA Synology package that will not install or update can fail because it is unavailable for your NAS or DSM version, the NAS cannot reach Package Center, the system partition is full, or the package’s publisher is not trusted. Start by recording your NAS model, DSM version, package name and version, whether this is a new install or update, the exact error, and when the problem began. Then follow the branch that matches the error instead of resetting the NAS as a first step.
Record the failure before changing settings
Write down these details from DSM and Package Center:
- NAS model and DSM version.
- Package name and version, if shown.
- Whether you are installing it for the first time or updating it.
- The exact error text and when the failure started.
- Whether other packages can install or update.
The exact message matters: Synology does not identify one universal error for every package failure. A problem affecting all packages points toward a different branch than one affecting a single package.
If the package is missing or incompatible
A package missing from Package Center is not necessarily evidence that Package Center is broken. Synology notes that availability can depend on both the DSM version and hardware available on particular models. Check the package’s supported models and DSM requirements in Synology’s Download Center before retrying. If the NAS or DSM version is not supported, network troubleshooting will not make the package compatible.

If Package Center says “Connection Failed”
Synology uses “Connection Failed” for a Package Center connection problem. Check the NAS’s network connection, DNS resolution, time synchronization, and any firewall or proxy filtering before trying another installation method. Synology’s troubleshooting steps are in its Package Center connection guidance.
- Confirm the NAS can access the internet, then open Control Panel > Network > Network Interface and check the active connection.
- If DNS appears to be the issue, Synology suggests manually configuring DNS. Its guidance lists
8.8.8.8and8.8.4.4; it lists different DNS servers for users in China. - If the NAS is joined to a domain, check whether domain DNS forwarding is configured correctly.
- Make sure NTP time synchronization is enabled. Incorrect system time can interfere with secure connections.
- Check firewall and proxy rules for blocked Package Center traffic.
Allow the documented Package Center endpoints
For a firewall, use Synology’s current DSM 7 Package Center endpoint list rather than guessing which domains to allow. Synology says to allow the listed URLs through ports 80 and 443. The list covers download, update, account, and package-update traffic; consult it directly for the complete current set.

If DSM reports insufficient system capacity
This message can refer to the system partition, not the free space shown for a storage volume in Storage Manager. Synology explicitly cautions that Storage Manager’s available-space figure does not show free space in the system partition. Check Synology’s insufficient system capacity guidance and look for potential contributors such as output saved in system paths, container path mappings, detailed system logs, or some package logs.
Follow Synology’s cleanup guidance and consider restarting the NAS before escalating to a reset. Do not assume that freeing space on a data volume will resolve a system-partition capacity error.

If the NAS is offline or you need a specific package version
Synology documents manual SPK installation as an option when the NAS cannot download a package or when a specific version is needed. This bypasses downloading the package on the NAS; it does not bypass model or DSM compatibility requirements.
- On a computer, use Synology’s Download Center to find the package for the correct NAS model and DSM version.
- Download the SPK from Synology or a publisher you trust. Confirm that the package fits your NAS before proceeding.
- In DSM, open Package Center > Manual Install, select the downloaded SPK, and follow the prompts.
Synology’s manual installation instructions describe the process. If the SPK is incompatible, using Manual Install will not make it suitable for the device.

If DSM blocks a third-party package
Check Package Center’s trust or source settings if the package comes from outside Synology. The available controls and labels vary by DSM version. Synology’s DSM 6 package trust help distinguishes Synology-only, Synology plus trusted publishers, and any-publisher settings. Its DSM 7 package source help covers package sources and update controls.
Use packages from trusted publishers, and do not weaken publisher checks casually just to get an installation through.

Use reset only after safer checks
Resetting can affect configuration, packages, licenses, or data, depending on the reset path. Synology recommends backing up system configuration and packages before a Mode 2 reset. A factory reset erases data; back up configuration, packages, and shared-folder data to another device or a reliable destination first. Some packages may not be restorable through Hyper Backup and might need to be installed again manually. Licensed packages may also require accessible license keys. See Synology’s reset guidance before proceeding.
If Synology’s recommended steps do not resolve the problem, or you are unsure what a reset status means, contact Synology Support with the model, DSM version, package details, exact error, and steps already tried.
