The shortcut was reported by Chrome Unboxed on July 30, 2025; Google’s own help page describes the feature and other ways to open it, but does not list this key combination as an official shortcut.
What Launcher + Space does
Select to search with Lens lets you look up visual content without leaving what you are viewing. Google describes using it to identify an item in a photo or video and find similar shoppable options. On supported devices and in supported languages and countries, it can also capture text from an image. Internet access is required. Google’s June 2025 Chromebook update describes the feature and its availability limits.
Chrome Unboxed’s Robby Payne reported the Launcher + Space combination on July 30, 2025, after accidentally pressing the keys and retesting the behavior. It is a keyboard-first way to start an on-screen lookup. Read the original report.
How to use the shortcut
- Open the photo, video, or other visual content you want to examine.
- Press the Launcher key and Space together.
- Use the Select to Search interface to select the relevant part of the screen and view the Lens results.
If nothing happens, try one of the other documented entry points below. Availability can depend on internet access, device, language, country, and ChromeOS version.

Other ways to open Select to Search
Chrome Unboxed lists these additional routes:
- Press the screen-capture key, then choose Lens.
- Long-press the on-screen Launcher button.
- Open the expanded launcher view and click the Lens icon.
Google’s June 2025 update also documents long-pressing Launcher to start visual search and text capture.
Is Launcher + Space an official Chromebook shortcut?
Google’s keyboard-shortcuts reference documents many Launcher/Search combinations and Space for scrolling, but does not identify Launcher + Space as the Select to Search shortcut. The specific key combination is therefore supported here by Chrome Unboxed’s July 2025 report, rather than by Google’s published shortcut list.

Google’s Chromebook Plus overview presents Chromebook Plus as a laptop category, names the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, and describes the line as having at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That product-page information does not establish that every Chromebook Plus model or ChromeOS version supports every Select to Search capability; feature availability varies by device and region.
