If you still have both consoles, use Nintendo’s individual save-data transfer to move your Zelda save. It does not require Nintendo Switch Online, but it deletes the transferred save from the old console. If the old console is gone, you can recover the save only if it was backed up to the cloud, the exact game edition supports cloud saves, and you have an eligible Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Choose the transfer method that fits your situation

Nintendo documents individual save transfer and full user transfer as separate processes. Use the individual transfer when you only need a Zelda save; use user transfer when the wider profile migration is your goal.
Move a Zelda save between consoles
For individual save transfer, both consoles need an internet connection and must be near each other. The users involved must be linked to the same Nintendo Account. Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not needed for this transfer. See Nintendo’s save-data transfer instructions.
- Update both Nintendo Switch consoles and connect them to the internet.
- Link the same Nintendo Account to the user on each console.
- On the old console, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console.
- Select the user and Zelda save you want to move.
- On the new console, choose the receive option and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the transfer.
The transferred save is deleted from the old console. This is a move, not a copy or backup, so do not expect a duplicate save to remain on the source system. Nintendo says this method also works for games that do not support Save Data Cloud.

Recover a Zelda save when the old console is unavailable
A cloud download can restore a save only if it was backed up before the old console became unavailable, the exact Zelda game and edition support Save Data Cloud, and you use the Nintendo Account associated with the backup and an eligible Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo says cloud saves are available for the vast majority of Switch and Switch 2 games; check the specific game’s eShop listing or product information rather than assuming every Zelda release or edition supports them. - On the new console, sign in with the Nintendo Account used for the original save.
- Check that the exact Zelda game or edition supports Save Data Cloud and that a backup exists for that account.
- Before downloading, inspect the new console’s current save for that game.
- Download the cloud save using Nintendo’s cloud-save instructions.
A cloud download replaces the existing save for that game on the new console. Nintendo warns that overwritten data cannot be recovered, so check the target save before you proceed.

Know the Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition limitation
Nintendo’s Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition product page says the edition supports Save Data Cloud. It also warns: “Please note, the second saved data file created in the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game to play.”
This restriction applies to the second save file created in that Switch 2 Edition when transferring it to the original Switch version. It is not a general statement about every Zelda game, every save file, or every transfer direction.

When a full user transfer is the better fit
If you are migrating a user rather than moving only Zelda’s save, Nintendo’s Transfer Your User Data process moves the profile, its associated saves, and purchases. The source no longer retains the transferred user and associated data. Nintendo says the target console cannot have more than seven users before this migration and must have enough internal memory for the transferred data; these conditions apply to user transfer, not the individual save-data method.
