For an Amazon-purchased Kindle book, deliver it from the Amazon account that bought it. For your own EPUB, PDF, or other document, use Send to Kindle or transfer it by USB. The Colorsoft’s included USB cable supports file transfers, so you do not need to buy a separate cable.
Choose the transfer method for your book
| What you want to transfer | Best route | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| A Kindle book bought from Amazon | Manage Your Content and Devices | Use the Amazon account that purchased the title, then deliver it to the registered Colorsoft. |
| Your own ebook or document | Send to Kindle | Amazon’s US help guidance lists supported file types and a 200 MB per-file limit. |
| A personal file on a computer, transferred locally | USB | Windows uses File Explorer; USB transfers on 2024-released Kindles, including Colorsoft, require Amazon’s Send to Kindle app on Mac. |
Deliver a book purchased from Amazon
Amazon-purchased Kindle books are associated with the account used to buy them. Deliver the book to the Colorsoft from that account rather than copying it from a computer.
- Sign in to the Amazon account that purchased the book and open Manage Your Content and Devices.
- Open the Content tab and choose Books from the content-type dropdown.
- Find the title, then select Deliver or Remove from Device.
- Select your registered Kindle Colorsoft and choose Make Changes.
- Connect the Colorsoft to Wi-Fi. If the book does not appear, open Settings and select Sync My Kindle or Sync and Check for Items.
If the title is not listed in your Amazon content, check Your Orders → Digital Orders and confirm the order completed. Amazon’s book delivery guidance also explains sending content to registered devices.
Send a personal ebook or document wirelessly
Amazon recommends Send to Kindle for personal files. The service can add documents to your Kindle library and send them to registered Kindle devices and apps at no additional cost. Amazon’s US help page lists a maximum of 200 MB per file and supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, RTF, HTM, HTML, PNG, GIF, JPG, JPEG, BMP, and EPUB. These are Amazon-published service limits, not a guarantee that every third-party ebook will transfer or open as expected.

Amazon’s general transfer page does not establish local marketplace variations or explain DRM restrictions for books from third-party stores; check the file provider’s terms and the Send to Kindle page for your marketplace if a file is rejected.
Transfer files by USB
The Kindle Colorsoft’s included USB cable can be used to transfer files. The exact steps depend on your computer’s operating system.

- Copy compatible files to the Kindle’s Documents folder.
- When finished, use the device’s Disconnect button or unplug the cable.
Amazon says the complete file path should not exceed 256 characters. Rename, compress, or extract files on your computer rather than within the Kindle file system.
Mac
Amazon’s guidance says Kindle Scribe and Kindle devices released in 2024 require the Send to Kindle app for USB file transfers. Its USB Manager supports Intel and M1–M3 Macs running macOS 12 or later.
