To track a visual UI bug in Jira, create a bug work item with clear reproduction steps, separate actual and expected results, and attach a screenshot directly to the work item. The image shows what went wrong; the written context helps someone else reproduce and fix it.
Report a visual bug in Jira Cloud
- Check for an existing report. Search Jira work items for the same page or component and visible symptom before creating a new one. Atlassian recommends searching for existing work items first: Jira work item types.
- Create a bug work item. Use a summary that names the affected area and the visible failure, such as “Checkout: selected shipping option loses focus outline.” Jira interface labels can vary as the work-item experience changes.
- Describe how to reproduce it. Record the page or component, relevant state or account context, and the actions that lead to the defect. Number the steps in order. Include only environment details you know, such as browser, device, or viewport.
- Separate actual from expected. State what appeared and what should have appeared or how the interface should have behaved. A screenshot helps, but does not replace these details.
- Attach the evidence. Drag the image onto the work item or use its attachment controls. Jira Cloud supports images and files as attachments; available controls may vary by site. See Atlassian’s attachment instructions.
- Verify the upload. Check that the attachment appears and its preview opens for the people who need to triage the issue. If the work item has more than 150 attachments, Jira displays them as a list, according to Atlassian’s page updated September 26, 2025: Resolve attachment-related issues.
Use a report template that supports reproduction
This practical template is a recommended way to make the description actionable; it is not an Atlassian-prescribed visual-bug schema. Atlassian advises providing enough detail in the description to help resolve the issue: Write and format work items.
- Summary: [Page or component] — [visible defect]
- Environment: Browser, device, viewport, and relevant account state, if known.
- Preconditions: State needed to reach the affected view.
- Steps to reproduce: Numbered actions, in order.
- Actual result: What appeared, including the affected element and visible state.
- Expected result: What the interface should show or how it should behave.
- Evidence: Screenshot attached to the work item, with a note identifying the relevant region if needed.
If a short recording explains a transient visual defect better than a still image, attach it as supporting evidence if your team permits it. Atlassian lists video files among supported attachments in its attachment guidance.
Attach screenshots that remain accessible
Upload the screenshot to Jira rather than relying only on an externally hosted image. An external image may disappear or become inaccessible because of changed permissions, preventing its preview from loading. Atlassian recommends using the attachment feature to upload an image to the ticket: image-preview troubleshooting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Jira also allows images and files in descriptions, comments, and other long-text fields. If you copy or paste an image between multi-line fields, Jira may create a soft link to the original attachment. Removing that original can make the copied instance unavailable. Atlassian’s workaround is to copy the image itself so Jira uploads a duplicate attachment: attachment troubleshooting.
Choose the right Jira reporting path
Use a bug report when you have identified a defect; use a suggestion when proposing a change in behavior, or a support request when you need help. Atlassian’s Jira Cloud help distinguishes these routes and advises reporting an identified bug when no further assistance is needed: Raise a work item.

When Jira will not accept or preview an attachment
Attachment controls are missing
Attachments are enabled by default according to Atlassian’s administration documentation, but an administrator can change the setting or disable attachments. A custom permission scheme may require the Create Attachments permission. When attaching during work-item creation, the Attachment field must also be visible for that work type. Ask a Jira administrator to check the applicable settings and permissions: Configure file attachments.
The upload exceeds the file limit
Atlassian’s current Cloud pages conflict on the default per-file limit: its add-content page says 10 MB, while its attachment and administration pages report 1 GB as the default and a configurable maximum of 2 GB per file. These are not safe to treat as one universal limit. Check the limit configured for your Jira site and ask its administrator which setting applies. See add attachments, attachment troubleshooting, and attachment administration.

Atlassian’s administration page lists file storage per app as 2 GB for Free, up to 250 GB for Standard, and unlimited for Premium. These are documented plan details, not a guarantee of a particular site’s configured attachment limit; confirm current plan and site details with Atlassian or your administrator: Configure file attachments.
The preview is unavailable
Confirm the attachment is actually present on the work item and upload it directly to Jira if it currently depends on an external image URL. If an image was copied between fields, check whether the original attachment was removed; upload a duplicate image if necessary.

- Include browser, device, or viewport information only when known; do not guess.
- Attach the image to Jira and verify its preview and access for the intended reviewers.
- Use a recording only when motion or timing is essential and team policy permits it.
