Track each physical dealership as a separate record with a stable internal ID, preserve the values and source URL found on each website, and record when you checked them. Compare normalized addresses and phone numbers to spot likely mismatches, then review conflicts before changing your canonical record. Google has its own location-matching requirements for vehicle listings and ads; those requirements do not govern every automotive website.

Build one record for each physical dealership

Start with a canonical table in which each row represents one real dealership location. Assign a stable internal location ID that does not change when a name, phone number, or address changes. Keep separate locations separate even when they share a brand or similar names.

Field What to record
Internal location ID Your stable key for matching the same physical location across sources.
Name The dealer name as presented on the source website; preserve the source value rather than replacing it with your preferred spelling.
Address The full postal address, including suite or unit and country where supplied.
Phone The phone number as shown on the source page.
Website The dealership’s own website, if listed.
Source page URL The exact page where you observed the location information.
Observed date When that source page was checked.
Google identifier, if relevant Google Place ID or Maps URL, plus the Google store_code you use for applicable Google feeds or ads.

This is a practical recordkeeping workflow, not a Google-mandated schema. Keep each source’s raw values alongside normalized comparison values. For example, a normalized phone field can help reveal formatting-only differences, while the raw value preserves what a site actually displayed. Normalize addresses consistently for comparison, but do not discard unit numbers, country, or the source spelling.

Compare sites without silently merging locations

  1. Collect the same fields from each relevant dealer, OEM, aggregator, or directory page, and save the exact source URL and observation date with each capture.
  2. Use the stable internal ID to associate records you believe refer to the same physical location. Treat normalized address and phone matches as evidence for review, not as proof on their own.
  3. Flag differences in name, address, phone, website, or missing fields. Similar names alone are not enough to merge two records.
  4. Review conflicts against the source pages and decide which value belongs in the organization’s canonical record. Retain the conflicting observations and the reason for the decision.
  5. When a source changes, add a dated change-log entry rather than overwriting the only copy of the previous observation.

These steps make it possible to distinguish a genuine business change from inconsistent formatting, stale listings, or two nearby locations with similar names. No universal update interval for monitoring arbitrary automotive websites is established here; set a review cadence appropriate to how quickly your sources change and how costly stale data would be.

How Google matches dealership locations

Google’s requirements apply to its own vehicle listing and ad programs, not to every automotive website. Keep your internal location key distinct from Google identifiers: Google’s store_code is a provider-chosen identifier, while your internal ID should remain stable across your own systems.

Vehicle listings

Google’s vehicle-listing feed matching uses a store code, dealership name, and postal address. Google strongly recommends including a Place ID or Maps URL to reduce ambiguity and uniquely identify the Business Profile. See Google’s vehicle listings feed guidance.

Google describes both feed files and website structured data as ways to provide vehicle inventory. Its onboarding guidance characterizes structured data as easier to implement and maintain, while warning that Google may take longer to detect website changes. Feed uploads can carry richer detail and dedicated support, but may require development to create and maintain. For multiple dealerships, the guide allows locations to be included in one feed and partitioned by dealership. Review the current onboarding requirements before choosing a method.

Vehicle ads and store data

For vehicle ads, Google associates a vehicle with a dealership location using store_code matched to Business Profile or store-data location information. Google Ads Help says, “The most comprehensive means of providing your dealer locations is through linking your Google Business Profile account.” Its store data instructions require store_code and store_address; store name, phone, and website URL are recommended. The submitted address must be a full street address that includes country and is unique within the submitted data. See Google Ads Help’s store data instructions.

Google recommends linked Business Profiles for advertisers who own their dealership listings. Aggregators and OEMs that do not own the listings should use a store data source. Google also describes multi-client account structures for some multi-dealership setups. These are Google-specific integration choices, not a general architecture rule for tracking locations across other sites. See Google’s vehicle ads integration guidance.

Provider and eligibility checks

Google says a dealership provider must be Google-approved and its inventory successfully matched to the Business Profile before it can appear as a provider. If a dealer does not choose a preferred provider, Google may select one using data-quality factors such as completeness and freshness. Check the current vehicle-listing onboarding guidance and vehicle ads integration guidance for applicable requirements.

Before diagnosing a feed as defective, verify that the relevant Business Profile is claimed and verified and that the program is available for the geography involved. Vehicle listings and vehicle ads have distinct program rules and matching steps, and their eligibility and supported regions can change. Consult Google’s vehicle listing documentation and vehicle ads documentation rather than assuming an older onboarding guide still applies.

Capture source pages efficiently

For a small set of pages, manual checking may be sufficient. For larger tracking workloads, use a repeatable capture process that stores each page URL and the date observed alongside the values you extract. A screenshot can preserve what a page visibly showed at a given time, but it does not itself identify the correct canonical dealer record; keep structured field values and review decisions as well.

One GET request can return a screenshot of a page. The following cURL example saves a WebP capture; replace the URL with the source page you need to inspect. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for configuration options.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor before capture, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms as well as newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers say which page verdict occurred and whether it was billed. Troubleshoot common tracking problems

  • Two records look like duplicates: compare full addresses, including unit and country, and phone values; check the source pages before merging. A similar dealership name is not sufficient evidence that the locations are the same.
  • The same location has conflicting addresses: retain both raw observations with their URLs and dates, then review which source supports the canonical value. Do not erase the discrepancy by overwriting the source-specific record.
  • A Google feed does not match a location: check that the store code, dealership name, and postal address correspond to the intended location; add the recommended Place ID or Maps URL where available. For store data used in Google Ads, confirm the required store code and unique full address, including country.
  • An aggregator or OEM cannot link a dealer-owned Business Profile: Google’s vehicle ads guidance says advertisers that do not own the listing should use a store data source.
  • Google has not reflected a website change: Google notes that it may take longer to detect changes from structured data than a feed-based submission. Check the program’s current guidance and eligibility before treating the delay as a failed submission.
  • A provider is not appearing: verify Google approval and successful inventory matching to the Business Profile under the current program rules.

Choose monitoring software only for the coverage you need

No particular third-party tool is established here as the best way to monitor arbitrary automotive websites. If you evaluate location-data or listing-management software, check that it covers the specific source sites you need and supports dated change history, duplicate resolution, source retention, and export of records. Google feeds and structured data are ways of supplying inventory to Google, not substitutes for a cross-site monitoring process.
