Support can depend on your country or region, Android version, and phone model. If your phone is not a Samsung Galaxy, check support for your exact device and market before buying. For supported setups, Samsung identifies SmartThings Find for checking and sharing a tag’s location and Search Nearby for finding it at close range.
Does Galaxy SmartTag3 work with a non-Samsung Android phone?
Samsung’s September 30, 2026 Japanese announcement explicitly says SmartTag3 supports Android devices beyond Galaxy, as well as iOS. The same announcement warns that feature availability varies by country or region, operating-system version, and device model. See Samsung’s SmartTag3 launch announcement.
Samsung’s global and U.S. launch announcements describe cross-OS support as Galaxy and iOS, without explicitly confirming non-Galaxy Android support. The Japanese statement is therefore direct evidence that support exists, but it does not establish that every Android phone, region, or feature is supported. Confirm compatibility for your exact phone in your market before purchase.
How tracking works when your phone is supported
Check the tag’s location with SmartThings Find
Samsung identifies SmartThings Find as the service for checking and sharing a SmartTag3’s location. Its support page describes SmartThings Find as an Android service and covers features including shared location, location history, and left-behind notifications; availability depends on supported devices. See Samsung’s SmartThings Find support information.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Search nearby when you are close
When you are near the tag, Samsung names Search Nearby as the close-range finding feature on supported devices. Samsung says Compass View can provide direction and distance guidance up to 60 meters, and that UWB enables more precise finding as you get closer. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities, not independent test results. The available information does not confirm which of these features a particular non-Galaxy Android phone will offer.
Understand what happens out of range
When the tag is beyond your phone’s direct range, remote location updates rely on Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network. Samsung says participating Galaxy devices can detect a SmartTag3 and help report its location. A non-Galaxy Android phone is not identified as a finding-network node, so do not assume that your phone will relay other tags’ locations or provide network coverage. Samsung says more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide can act as finding nodes; that is Samsung’s own network-size statement, not an independently verified count. See Samsung’s SmartTag3 features announcement.

Setup instructions for non-Galaxy Android are not established
Samsung’s available instructions for pressing a tag button, choosing “Add Now,” and following in-app setup apply explicitly to older SmartTags. That guide warns that those earlier tags connect only to Samsung devices. It is not verified SmartTag3 setup guidance for a non-Galaxy Android phone, and its older-device restriction should not be treated as proof that SmartTag3 lacks the newer support Samsung describes. See Samsung’s legacy SmartTag connection instructions.
Samsung’s official material does not state a minimum Android version, list supported non-Galaxy phone models, or provide complete SmartTag3 setup steps for those phones. If your phone is confirmed as compatible, follow the SmartThings Find or SmartTag3 setup flow offered for your region and device; do not rely on legacy-tag instructions as a guaranteed match.

Samsung Electronics America separately says U.S. availability is expected by early November 2026, at launch prices of $29.99 for one tracker or $99.99 for a four-pack. These are U.S. launch details announced in 2026, not a guarantee of current stock or pricing elsewhere. Check Samsung’s regional availability announcement for applicable details.
Samsung also lists a Silicone Case with keyring and a Loop Case as accessories. Consider them only after confirming that the tracker itself is supported by your phone and available in your market.
