To try the Satellite SOS demo, open Settings > Safety & emergency > Satellite SOS and follow the on-screen instructions. The demo temporarily disables your mobile network and turns it back on automatically when you exit. It is a guided demonstration—not proof that a live satellite connection will work at your location.
Run the Satellite SOS demo
- Open the Settings app on your Pixel.
- Tap Safety & emergency, then Satellite SOS.
- Follow the on-screen demo instructions. Your mobile network is temporarily disabled during the demo and automatically re-enabled when you exit, according to Google Pixel Help.
Use this demo to become familiar with the guided experience. Google’s instructions do not specify that completing it verifies a live satellite connection, confirms service at your current location, or guarantees a successful future emergency response.
If Satellite SOS or the demo is unavailable
Check whether your phone is eligible and look for Satellite SOS availability or activation status in Settings. Google says the feature requires the necessary software and APIs to be updated and registration with the satellite network; you’ll be notified when it is active. Menu availability and service status can therefore depend on the device and activation conditions.
Which Pixel phones and regions are supported?
Google lists Pixel devices from Pixel 9 onward as supporting Satellite SOS, with the Pixel 9a excluded. Its current listed regions are the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Check Google’s current availability and requirements for updates.

Being in a listed country does not guarantee a connection everywhere within it. Google says availability can depend on network coverage and conditions, as well as the government agency of the respective carrier. A real satellite connection also needs a clear view of the sky: buildings, trees, and terrain can obstruct it. Follow the phone’s prompts to face and tilt it toward the satellite. Connection and response times vary with location and site conditions.
What the real emergency process involves
Satellite SOS is for exceptional circumstances when no other means of contacting emergency services is available—not for practice. For actual use, Google says to dial your local emergency services number. If neither mobile nor Wi-Fi service is available, the dialer may offer Satellite SOS. The emergency workflow then guides you through starting the request, answering questions about the emergency, choosing whether to notify emergency contacts, and positioning the phone. Google Messages must be the default messaging app for actual Satellite SOS use.

After a connection is made, the emergency provider should respond by text within a few minutes, though timing varies. Stay outside with a clear view of the sky so you can receive replies.
